Kids adventure through missions

Kids adventure through missions

Many children across the globe face realities that seem unimaginable — some are subject to sex trafficking, are parentless, search the streets for food and water, or don’t have homes — and perhaps the harshest reality of all: many do not know Christ.

Seeing this firsthand is what sparked the idea of This Little Light of Mine in the heart of Judy Griffis, wife of International World Missions Director David M. Griffis.

The project is geared towards educating children about the needs of their peers and setting a foundation for missions in their lives.

Church of God World Missions seeks to connect generations to the heart of the Gospel and to finishing the Great Commission. The hope is to show people of all ages that they can be involved in reaching the world. While our Send the Light initiative is focused on reaching cities, establishing churches, providing disaster response and relief, and aiding education, This Little Light of Mine’s segment reaches the young souls in these areas through the efforts of other small helping hands.

The project is currently focused on six different areas of the world: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Ecuador, India, Kenya, and Thailand. Each project area has its own specific needs, ranging from clean water to mattresses to sponsoring a child to attend a church camp. Churches and ministries can choose which project they want to support and are given a tangible goal to meet. A 7-week teaching curriculum, Little Lights Adventure, was recently launched to aid the endeavor of connecting the future generation.

As a free downloadable resource, the curriculum takes the class on an adventure through each of the project areas. They get to learn some fun facts about the culture, hear a lesson that ties into missions, and gather as a class and pray over the area and the kids there. There are also practical fundraising ideas for the church to participate in. This adventure is something that will ignite a life-long desire and journey of living a missional life.

Judy Griffis says: “Making children aware of other’s needs, globally, in addition to helping them grow  a ‘missions heart,’ is my sincerest desire. I’m convinced that children can help Send the Light to other children!”
