(Jim is under the weather this week, so we dusted off an “Israel Watch” from years back—but is still relevant for right now.)
Israel Analysis
The Bible foresaw Iran
By Jim Fletcher
As if we needed more confirmation that Scripture is true, we see a development in the Middle East that proves Paul’s famous words in Romans 1:28—
“Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.”
It goes on to say of course that such people sink into a quicksand of wickedness, evil, and insanity. Do we have a better example today than the mullahs in Iran?
History is littered with regimes that tried to get rid of the Jews. In this sense, the Jews are “unbeaten” versus such foes. Yet the latter continue to try!
Iran now claims the capability of reaching Israel with lethal missiles in “400 seconds.” That’s under seven minutes.
The Sobh-e-Sadegh newspaper published a threat in Hebrew on its front page on Monday, warning that a new hypersonic missile reportedly developed by Iran could reach Israel in 400 seconds.
“400 seconds: General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Aerospace Force, said that Iran has obtained technology for hypersonic missiles,” wrote the newspaper.
The premise is that the missile could eliminate defense systems, thus creating an avenue for a mass launch of drones and missiles. Of course, this is Israel’s nightmare scenario. Such possibilities have been discussed, relevant to Lebanon as a staging ground. For many years, Hezbollah has had tens of thousands of rockets aimed at Israel. This time, the Iranians seem poised to join that fight directly.
Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam, the “father” of Iran’s missile program, sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In it, he references a “quick response super-fast missile.”
He also referenced the development of satellite launch vehicles, which have resulted in the Qaem 100 satellite launcher. (It is worth noting that in 2011, Moghaddam was killed in an explosion in Bidganeh; Western media reported that the Mossad was responsible.
According to the Jerusalem Post:
“’This missile has a high speed and can maneuver in and out of the atmosphere. It will target the enemy’s advanced anti-missile systems and is a big generational leap in the field of missiles,’ commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying.”
Terrorists’ rhetoric is usually epic, and this time is no different. IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) General Amir Ali Hajizadeh Hajizadeh said:
“Both defense systems that defend inside the atmosphere and extremely expensive systems that deal with missiles outside the atmosphere, this new missile of the Islamic Republic of Iran will pass all of them and I don’t think that technology will be found that can deal with it for decades to come.”
It’s not clear if this system has been tested.
Hypersonic missiles are missiles that travel at a speed of Mach 5 or greater. While ICBMs can also reach that speed, they travel in a predictable arc, making them easier to confront. In contrast, hypersonic missiles are maneuverable, giving them the ability to dodge defense systems and evade radar.
Various superpowers (along with North Korea) have tested hypersonic missiles, although not much is known about them in the public. Iran’s entry into this exclusive club, if true, spells a new threat to Israel.
Today, we are operating in several realms: we watch closely political developments and military threats to our own country and our beloved ally, Israel. But we also as believers place our trust fully in the Lord. Let us resolve to continue to pray for Israel, for her physical protection, until that glorious moment when her spiritual renewal is complete.
Iran will learn too late that it has always been folly to threaten the Jews.
