Which Person of the Trinity is speaking in Genesis 1:27?
Which Person of the Trinity is speaking in Genesis 1:27?
In Genesis 1:26 God says let’s make man in Our image. It’s God the Creator. Who Created everyone and Everything? Jesus
It is the Son – Jesus. The eternal Word.
God of the Bible is a partnership of a Heavenly Father, His Son – Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. They are one in what they think, say and do. 1+1+1=3 1x1x1=1
Father is the only creator. Nothing else, nothing more. Read Malachi 2: 10. Do we not all have one FATHER ? Did not one GOD create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our ancestors by being unfaithful to one another? Ecclesiastes 12: 1. Remember your CREATOR in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—
Am not sure
God the Father
If I can recommend things for you to study and some books. To understand the old testament, I would recommend you study ANE cultures, Semitic language, linguistics in general, and grammar. In the culture, language is used very differently than we do today, in some cases (including this verse). Studying the use of language and culture will reveal some great things to you in order to understand much of the scriptures in its own context and ANE way of thought. A way you can somewhat speed this up is by reading a series of books from an author renowned for clearly articulating the language in context of the culture. I would recommend you start with the Unseen Realm by Michael S Heiser.
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Let me try to make it clear. God is triune in nature.
Father God
?He is a spirit
?He is invisible
?There is no human shape or form to Him.
?He is the God head
Son the God.
? He is the image of the
invisible God.
? He is the alpha and omega of everything that exists
?His Human and Godly nature co-exists. Hence the human form
? Only through Jesus can everything be created. He is the logos of everything.
? Fullness of God (Father)dwells in Him.
Therefore, we all are created in the image of Jesus(Gen 1:27) by Father the God who dwells in Jesus.
Logos ?John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
God is not a person. He is a Spirit – John 4: 24
Who wrote Genesis?
Moses
Tradition credits Moses as the author of Genesis, as well as the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and most of Deuteronomy, but modern scholars increasingly see them as a product of the 6th and 5th centuries BC.
God the Father
Only the Father. There’s no such thing as the Trinity in the OT.
Its obviously the Father. He is the Father for a reason. He is the head of the trinity.
The word for God in Genesis 1:27 is Elohim meaning gods therefore implying Father, Son and Spirit… God creates through his sin by the power of the Spirit .. so in answer to your question – all three
John and Colossians say Christ.
The Father talking to the Son and the Holy Spirit, saying let us make man in our image 🙂 that’s amazing! Gods trinity seen from the very beggining!
The one talking in Gen. 1 :27 the specific verse, as your question was, was not God but Moses., he was narrating what happened…. as he was the author of Genesis
What difference does it make?
God through Moses
The OJV says: Elohim, which is the plural form of Eloi ( God), so technically the Trinity speaks.
None. Trinity isn’t in the bible
This is God in His essence communicating. We cannot conclude “which Person” is communicating with Another in the same sense we communicate as people. God is not like us. It is clear the communication in Genesis 1:26 is NOT a “plurality of majesty” (made famous by Queen Victoria) since the earliest known use of the poetic device is somewhere in the 4th century A.D. It is also clear from the text that it is plural (Let “Us” create), and since only God is the maker of all things (Isaiah 44:24) and there is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4) then God was speaking as a plural unity (or composite unity).
More like which deity in the polytheistic pantheon is supposedly talking to his fellow deities.
Always a good idea to read evolved theology back into a primitive text that at worst was polytheistic and at best was henotheistic.
But, people see what they want to see from their place and time as if later views of God were always the same in the past.
Sorry, but even in later texts, polytheism was still expressed in the biblical texts along with henotheism. Only in the prophets did the notion of monotheism enter the picture. And even after monotheism came along, Christianity still had to have at least three deities and maybe even a fourth with Mary.
We dont know mamen?? no person can comprehend
since in the economic subordination of the Trinity the agenda is set by the Father, it is God the Father who is speaking. It’s His plan and His will that is accomplished
If this helps…I’m sure some of you have heard this before.
Let’s look at water, H2O.
There is something called the triple point of water.
At 0 degrees Celsius under 610 pascals of pressure, we see H2O become liquid, vapour and ice all at the same time.
Is each of these states it is still H2O, right?
What we see is H2O expressed in three forms but is still H2O.
This is the best example I have ever heard to help explain “God”.
God, the Father
God, The Son
God,the Holy Spirit
One God, expressed to us in three persons.
3 of them.
Sometimes d Son comes as a man or angel
one person is he trinity but is three personalities . They call the first personality as Father because told us to call him Father. But Jesus is the Everlasting Father too.
NO confusion. They are one person anyway.
The Trinity is non-existent, so no one from the Trinity spoke. In reality, it was God the Father speaking through Jesus (Gen 1:27).
The Father
I think meditating on some of these mysteries helps more than seeking definitions. Find a quiet hour and isolate yourself from distractions. Pray for understanding and then be quiet and allow your mind to swing from contemplating each Person of God and then contemplate the fact that God is One. There is a tension to enter into, but you can gain understanding of it if you approach it without predetermined barriers.
What Credible Sources Say Concerning
The Doctrine of the Trinity
• Harper-Collins Bible Dictionary – (1996 Edition):
“It is only with the fathers of the church in the third and fourth centuries , that a full-fledged theory of the Incarnation develops. Attempts to trace the origins still earlier to the Old Testament literature cannot be supported by historical-critical scholarship. The formal doctrine of the Trinity as it was defined by the great Church Councils of the fourth and fifth centuries is not to be found in the New Testament .”
• Harper-Collins Bible Encyclopedia of Catholicism – (1995 Edition):
“Today, however, scholars generally agree that there is no doctrine of the Trinity as such in either the Old Testament or the New Testament …It would go far beyond the intention and thought-forms of the Old Testament to suppose that a late-fourth century or thirteenth century Christian doctrine can be found there. Likewise, the New Testament does not contain an explicit doctrine of the Trinity .”
• Encyclopedia International – (1982 Ed.; Vol. 18; p. 226):
“The doctrine of the Trinity did not form part of the apostles preaching as this is reported in the N.T.”
• New International Encyclopedia – (Vol. 23; p. 47, 477):
” The Trinity doctrine; the Catholic Faith is this: We worship one in trinity, but there is one person of the Father, another of the Son and another of the Holy Ghost – the Glory equal; the Majesty coeternal. The doctrine is not found in its fully developed form in the Scriptures. Modern theology does not seek to find it in the O.T . At the time of the Reformation the Protestant Church took over the doctrine of the Trinity, without serious examination .”
Please note: I (Joel Hemphill) do not teach Oneness or Trinitarian doctrine. They cannot both be right and I believe both present a mistaken view of the God of the Bible.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord” (not three) (Deut. 6:4; Mark 12:29).
” Father …this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God , and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (Jesus speaking) (John 17:1, 3).
“But to us there is but one God, the Father …and one Lord Jesus Christ” (Paul speaking) (I Cor. 8:6).
” One God and Father of all, who is above all …” (Paul speaking) (Eph. 4:6).
“My Father is greater than I” (Jesus speaking) (John 14:28).
“Have we not all one father ? Hath not one Godcreated us?” (Mal. 2:10).
“For there is one God , and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (I Tim. 2:5).
“Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one ” (Gal. 3:20).
El – singular,
Eloah- dual,
Elohim – three
Logos.
um…yes
God the father
So God-Elōhīm [The Living Word of GOD] created man in his [own] image, in the image of God-Elōhīm [The Messiah Pre-Incarnate] created he him; male and female created he them.

Trinity is a lie
Godhead
John 1:1-3
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2]He was in the beginning with God.
[3]All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
God
There is no trinity
The same in Genesis 1:26-“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
The triune God
Moses the writer of the event inspired by the Holy Spirit
There was no trinity conceived among professing Christians until the late 2nd century. Gen 1:26,27 shows God making man in “His” (singular) image, after “His” (singular) likeness. Verse 26 depicts Elohim (singular, via
“Pluralis Excellentiae”) telling the Angels that man would be made in God’s image, just like the Angels were.
The three persons were speaking as one
God
I’m assuming it’s 1.26??
And who said only one member was doing the speaking?
The Narrator here is Moses so its him speaking…
He wrote Genesis
it was Jesus, for without Him, nothing was made that has been made
( John 1:3) in Gen. 1:26 the Three person of the trinity were all active during creation.
No one it is after the quote.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
