2 Cor. 6:14-18
14 You are not the same as those who don’t believe. So don’t join yourselves to them. Good and evil don’t belong together. Light and darkness cannot share the same room.
15 How can there be any unity between Christ and the devil ? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
16 God’s temple cannot have anything to do with idols, and we are the temple of the living God. As God said, “I will live with them and walk with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
17 “So come away from those people and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch anything that is not clean, and I will accept you.”
18 “I will be your father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord All-Powerful.”

I think is pretty bad. Sure, its all true. But once again a doctrine or set of actions must have many verse. This is also out of context and placed in context makes no sense. How does one go out into the world unless you go to the unbelievers. The key word about is “join”. So do not join but be amongst them. Not touching something unclean is obvious such as idols. God wants to protect us from a slippery slope.

This is a pretty extreme way of looking at it. It’s true that you should not marry an unbeliever. Not only does God tell you not to do it, you will have an extremely difficult marriage ahead of you. But for those who did marry unbelievers for whatever reason, we should not be poking fun at their quandary but rather bless them and send them on their way with this word from Paul.

“If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his believing wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.” 1 Cor 7:12-14

Pretty sure that scripture is almost always used out of context. In fact the first time I heard it, someone was trying to say that people of different races shouldn’t marry. Since then I just hear it used to encourage young daughters to marry Christian men.

I could be wrong, but we can be “yoked” to many people in a variety of different relationships (e.g. business partners, co-sign for debt, father a child). There’s lots of ways we become legally and morally tied to people.
