why is it that God refused a human sacrifice on the altar and allowed a human sacrifice on the Roman cross?

Because Isaac was a type of Christ in his victorious sonship and of the Church in being redeemed. But the ram who took the place of Isaac is the type of Christ who sacrificed himself.

God was testing Abraham’s commitment. Would Abraham be willing to sacrifice the very thing he loved the most? He passed the test. It is (as noted an archetype) of the sacrifice the Father did of the Son on the cross. Christ’s death on the cross was redemptive for all mankind as He bore the sins of mankind and the wrath of the Father in Himself as the atoning sacrifice for those who would believe in Him.

The Jewish people used sacrifice as a way of atoning for their sins. Christs death or sacrifice took that away. The romans didnt practice Jewish customs and the Jewish people wanted him judged by the Romans.

It’s not about humans sacrifice. God paid the price for out sins. Isaac was not sin free.

Because Jesus (God incarnate) lived a sinless life and was able to carry the burden of the sin of the elect….this was decided before creation…
