Is it advisable for a Pastor to run and be part of the Politics?

My Father is town chairman. My mother is Town clerk, I have a cousin who is clerk in another town. Pastor or not, I wouldn’t advise ANYONE I actually liked to run for office.?? It is a thankless job. Ultimately, someone has to do it. But depending on what you have on your plate already, it takes up alot of your time for little return. Pastors typically have a busy enough schedule as it is. Any Pastor who has another full time job beside pastor absolutely should NOT in my opinion.

We are involved in politics as voters. But being elected to a position or getting youself out to a government job, you are sworn to obey the laws of the state as to your job whether you agree with them or not. A dangerous position to put youself into. But at times it is workable. It’s you and you conscience before God and the state. IF you can square them go right ahead.

Not at all. A priest (pastor) is a shepard of all the congregation and accepted by all. When he joins politics, his neutrality is compromised. His acceptability becomes divided and services severed.

There is no separation of church and state. Ecclesia is church in Greek or a senate . Only a king can establish . Therefore politics must align with the king … commenting on what isn’t , is our job

To me No because a pastor has permanent job from God. If a pastor is called by God he should continue to serve church.

A pastor has a higher calling than a politician and to be called to serve as a pastor requires a man to pass a more stringent qualification than a public official. I have nothing against Christians who would run for public office (in fact I encourage it). A servant of God who is clear of his calling is already serving people by focusing on what is eternal and not just what is temporal.

There are those who are teacher and same Pastor, Engineer same time Pastor. what can you say???? it depends if God calls you. I prefer righteous leadership

for me..a pastor should not run for positions in gov’t as a politics, we know politics… a dirty way of politicians ( the truth is there is no clean party), you already called by God for His flocks( the Highest calling for this timeline of God).. if a Pastor want to insist a positions in gov’t politics, choose then….who will you served.. the men of God or men of this world.. I don’t believed that God called you for both….as per Jesus Christ, you can’t served two masters… you hate the one and love the other..
and no apostles and even disciples have been a evangelist, preacher, pastors at the same time hold office in politics… Christian members probably, but not a pastors….( i am right about this? not sure actually?) -

We dont know what God has in his plan, all we can do is support? Ive always wondered what it would be like to see a true Christian, running. One that would not back from scripture? Would be interesting.

I don’t believe so. No where does God say His plan is to save society with politics and laws. He says this world and system is terminally corrupted, on death row, and He has overcome it with the GOSPEL, and promises the perfected and sinless NEW WORLD to come. Only the gospel gets people there, so that’s all they should be about. We need laws and lawmakers in the meantime, yes, but a pastor already has more duties fulfilling his proper calling that many can meet, than to add on worldly politics into their mix. Divided love and attention. Not good.

And served in public office.One that comes to mind was Dr. Benjamin Rush.
Signer of the Declaration Of Independence.And President James Garfield was a minister.
And The Rev Hiram Rhodes Revels, was the man who replaced Jefferson Davis in the Senate.

I have asked people to point to one Prophet in the Holy Bible that avoided the political sphere.
I know of none.
Of course Pastors should run for office and recruit candidates from their congregation.
The first Speaker of the House in the USA was Pastor Muhlenberg.
I believe it was President Taylor years later that was also a Pastor.
At present we have a Senator from Oklahoma who is also a Pastor.
It seems that Pastors avoid politics for two reasons.
One – they think it may jeopardize their tax free 501c3 (often the god they really serve) standing before that same government they are scared to engage.
Two – politics are divisive. Some will leave the Church so they preach 52 non offensive salvation messages per year.
While their congregations starve for the meat of the Word not just the milk.
Here are some things from the Bible in our Constitution that I doubt any have learned from a sermon…
The Bible in the Constitution� 1. That we are a Constitutional Republic comes from the Bible in Exodus 18:21 which states,
“Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands (Federal), and rulers of hundreds (State), rulers of fifties (County), and rulers of tens (City):”2. Our 3 branches of government come from Isaiah 33:22
which says, For the LORD is our judge (Judiciary), the LORD is our lawgiver (Legislative), the LORD is our king (Executive); he will save us.3. Separation of powers is found in Jeremiah 17:9

I’ll just give you just one example. In a Supreme Court decision Stephen Breyer, who is a very secular justice and very liberal justice of the Supreme Court, actually made a comment in that decision.
He said, “Of course, we all know that all the due process clause is in the 4th and 8th Amendment of the Constitution. All those clauses came out of the Bible.” Oh, do we know that ? Really?
So, when I checked his footnote on it he goes back to the federal practice and procedure. If you are an attorney that practices federal law you’ll have federal practice and procedure. If you pull volume 30 out, there’s nearly 60 pages in volume 30 that show that every clause. And the due process clause, that’s the right to confrontation, the right to compel witnesses in your behalf, and the right to trial, which every one of those clauses came out of the Bible.�The right to confront your accusers, John 8:12. The right to compel witnesses on your behalf, Proverbs 18. Most folks today have no clue. In previous generations, we knew that you couldn’t have good government if you didn’t relate to what created that good government to begin with. So that’s the Biblical world view we want. And to have a Biblical worldview actually just means the think Biblically, to know enough of the Bible to be able to think and know God’s values.5. Freedom of religion…�Amendment I of the US Constitution “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. ��Joshua 24:15
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.6. Circuit Judges …�Article III Section 1 Paragraph 1�The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. ��1 Sam 7:15,16… Article III Sec 1

himself in another note. ” ‘And Samuel judged Israel
all the days of his life, and he went from year to year
in circuit, to Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpeh, and judged
Israel in all those places.’ 1 Sam. ch. 7, ver. 15 & 16.”7. Natural Born Citizen Duet 17:15…. Article II, Sec 1 Par 5

8. Bill of Attainder, corruption of blood…�Article 1. Sec 9, Clause 3…No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.
Article 3, Sec 3, Clause 2… The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
�Ezekiel 18:20…The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them. page 1215 Founders Bible also in Jeremiah 31:28-30
At the time the British and Europe could punish, by taking lands from the children of guilty parents, hence corruption of blood. This was eliminated in our Constitution.
Joseph Story speaks of corruption of blood.9. Swearing an oath clause…
Article II Section 1 Paragraph 8. Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”��The reason the word affirmation is here is because of the Bible in Matthew 5:37 which states, “But let your language be, ‘Yes yes’ or ‘No, no.’ Anything in excess of this comes from the Evil one.“�A Quaker would not swear an oath but they would affirm a statement.��10) Sundays excepted clause…�Article I Section 7 paragraph 2�If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.��This comes from the Ten Commandments being the 4th Commandment which says; “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy”�Exodus 20:8Tax free Churches are also from the Bible and not the good will of government- Ezra 4
Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God, cited in the Declaration of Independence, is found in Job 12:7-10
“But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you; and the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you. Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you; and let the fish of the sea declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this, in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?”

I think politics is part of loving your neighbor—your fellow citizen neighbor. So, yes.

I believe a Christian president would undoubtedly help our nation. God needs to have his place back in our government. Now getting him/she elected would be the problem. But I for one would love to see someone in power who upholds the sovernty of the bible. But athiest and non Christian alike wouldn have to feel that he/she holds their best interest as well. A difficult thing to accomplish

Resign and then run. If he is still serving as a pastor it blurs the core necessity for someone to hear the gospel.

For me politics is good and I think only the politicians are dirty and dishonest. Much better for a Pastor to select only one function, either Pastoral or government
