THE ‘PAROUSIA’ OF CHRIST MEANS HIS ‘PRESENCE’. PAROUSIA. This Greek word is taken from PARA (“with”) and OU-SIA (“being” – derived from “ei-mi” “to be). Therefore PAROUSIA should literally mean “a being with” that is a “presence”, “at hand”. The verb form, actually speaks of the very personal presence of the one who comes. It should be noted very well that Parousia in no way indicates the ACT or MANNER of COMING of a person or the personal arrival but rather it denotes the very presence of the one who has already arrived and resident in a place or location. It is used 24 times in the NT among such passages as Jm 5:7, Math 24:3, 37, I Cor 15:23, 2 Pet 3:4, ITh 2:28, Math 24:27,29, I The 2:19,3:13; 4:15,5:23,2 Thes 2:1,8. It is used more often with the coming of Christ in relation to His Kingdom. The mistranslation of the word ‘coming’ is what has led to the expression “second coming” or “second advent”. Now going by the word Parousia (presence) as it ought to be of necessity means the arrival of Christ at the very place He is present. But the problem of the Church is the translation of Parousia as “coming” and so placing the emphasis on the arrival, such as an event that is about to take place, therefore the presence that ought to follow the arrival of such a person is hidden. So we keep on thinking and talking of His “coming” as an event and not that which has arrived and the activities following the arrival because of His presence. Do you see it? This is the problem with the Church world. While there might be arguments for the translation of Parousia to mean “arrival” and “presence”. It should be noted that most Greek Scholars generally agree that the “presence” of a person is the main idea conveyed by the word…..Dr David ogaga

  10. Brad James says:

To even ask this question reflects either a total lack of Biblical knowledge or a disbelief of it

  11. Garcia CR Amor says:

We are heading toward looking for Christ anticipation (Second Coming).

  12. C.J. Bouril says:

Yes and yes, and on that day every knee will bow and confess that He is God (Rom. 14:11)!

  13. Christian Bascos says:

The Bible clearly says He will come again.

  14. Jack Johnston says:

Well, if you are a literalist, you need an actual second coming or the Bible’s promises are a failure. If you realize the Bible’s promises are a failure, but you want to rehab the Bible for sentimental reasons, you’ve got to spiritualize that second coming thingy.

  15. Ntlantla Nonkondlo says:

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36 kjv).

.Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17|KJV)

Ain’t 2 cor 3:17 saying that the Lord(Jesus Christ) is that spirit referencing the coming of the holy spirit in the book of Act chapter 2???

    Help saints

  16. Zaundry Adams says:

Jesus second coming only happens at the close of the first 3 1/2 years of the tribulation period..most historians and pastors believe that those who live during the tribulation period will hear the trumpets sound and also see the Lord Jesus Christ appear physically with the saints at his second coming..

  17. Lawrence Lerewanu says:

    Psychical… Many prophecies about it.

he’s supposed to land on the mt of olives and split the mountain in half…. hard to do that spiritually

  20. Angelino Acosta says:

We could answer this correctly if we will not neglect the ROUTE.
    GOD gave the ROUTE how the Revelation was conveyed in the very first two verses of the Book of Revelation. It can simply diagrammed as follows;
    GOD > JESUS >
    > angel > John >
    > SERVANTS of the
    end time.

Neglecting this ROUTE was a false teaching. God is right when He said, many false teacher will appear at the end time bringing so many different interpretations of the Book of Revelation.

  21. Brenton Goin says:

Acts 1:11, Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Scripture says that He will set foot/feet on the mountain where He taught. Foot/feet are physical parts of physical being. L&P

  29. Kristen Park says:

I’m not sure. I don’t hold to “left behind” theology though. His second coming is real hit premillenial dispensationalism (left behind theology) is a two hundred year old doctrine (less actually) that has not historically been held by the church. No, I’m NOT talking about pre-trib, mid trib post trib. That’s a totally separate debate that only exists within premillenial dispensationalism.

  30. Jeremy Bickel says:

A physical Second Coming. He will defeat the armies that are attacking and just about to overrun Jerusalem

  31. Corey Matthew says:

Scripture and prophecy is too specific for it to be just a “spiritual coming”

Its a literal physical coming after the 7 year tribulation.

  32. Christopher Brynestad says:

There will definitely be a real, physical return to Jesus. Though honestly, I think we’ve confused and mixed up God’s heaven today with the earth’s New Creation reality that’ll happen after Jesus returns. I think this in part is why we have a hard time understanding the return and try to fit something else in its place.

  33. Lisa Groen says:

A real physical second coming. All eyes shall see him.

  34. Daniel P Campbell says:

Preterists would say he already returned in AD 70

Jesus is coming again. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter Who is here now providing wisdom and conviction to those who will receive it. The second coming will be for judgment, not redemption. Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of redemption! Open your hearts to Him and accept the grace of God which is available to all through faith in Jesus Christ! ():0)

  36. Iacomus Cu says:

He has already been risen in a physical body, and Paul talks of us as believers being resurrected in a body like his. So it only makes sense that Christ would return in his physical glorified body

  37. Scott Shifferd says:

    1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

  38. Paul Gray says:

We have known him according to the flesh but thus no more. 2 Corinthians 5:16 also read John chapters 14-17 the bible says to rightly divide the scripture , sometimes a verse may be about Jesus day of wrath or judgement which can come on every generation, sometimes it’s about being received up in glory at death like Paul said absent from the body present with the lord, sometimes it may be about the new birth and becoming dead to sin and becoming alive in spirit unto God however many will bunch them all together to support traditional teachings like the rapture. The bible says at the end there will be an increase in knowledge and revelation sadly some won’t budge on doctrines that were formulated way before the revelation and understanding of this time began to be revealed.

  39. Clive Samuels says:

    John 14:1-6
JESUS will return from Heaven to take Christians into Heaven.

Jesus came, lived, suffered, died. Rose from the dead.

    Yes he will come back

  47. Michael Wesolek Sr. says:

The Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ are not the same being, though they are co equal God

Yes he will return in the flesh. A glorified flesh none the less

  48. Sheila Anne says:

oh yes. Jesus will come back for his children

  49. Steven Wells says:

Yes Rev 19. He will come bodily

  50. Selepe Thabo says:

The angel of God declared “The way you saw HIM leave ,so shall his coming be” Acts 1:11. Zechariah 12;20 “They shall see HIM those who have pierced him…”. These two scriptures attest to the physical coming of Jesus Christ. The HOLY SPIRIT came upon the disciples of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem during the feast of Pentecost. TODAY, the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT is still impacting many LIVES. Jesus Christ is not the HOLY SPIRIT, but, the HOLY SPIRIT is GOD’S dunamis force behind the miracles, deliverances, purification and the unifying spirit in the body of Christ!!!
