If Adam’s sin surprised God, is God sovereign?
If God wasn’t surprised, in fact ordained it to be, is God just in punishing Adam’s sin?

God was not surprised but I think he was disappointed and I say that bcoz I think every decision we make results in a certain reality that could be good or bad depending on the choice we’ve made and I think God knows the resulting realities of every decision that we could make as the thoughts arise in our minds…… So God knows the realities but I don’t think he Influences our choices in a dictavive manner, he knew the thoughts in Cain’s mind and knew what the outcomes of the decisions he could take would be he encouraged him to master the sin that was crouching at his door but Cain made his own choice, and I repeat this” I believe God knows every possible choice we could make not every choice that we will make coz that would mean we’re determined and we’re clearly not “

Scripture says God does all things for His own glory. Its selfish. That is the right of an eternal being who is above all. Nothing is beyond God’s knowledge and wisdom or justice, therefore morality can only actually be defined by the Creator of reality.

You need to get to know God a little better. Read the book of Job and the Psalms, meditate on what God says about himself. They you will understand how naïve your question is ( don’t mean that in an insulting way at all) honestly. Our God is beyond our imaginations, so think of the most powerful being you can imagine and then see it as a kid compared to the real God of the universe. Nothing gets past him, absolutely nothing. He sees everything millenniums before it ever happens. There is nothing that surprises him, nothing.

If I buy my 16 year old a car and she gets into a car accident is that my fault?? I am not sovereign but I know that she will almost certainly get into an accident.
It’s funny that no one considers the result of God did not place the tree there. No suffering or sin also means no forgiveness, mercy, grace, hope, or faith.
The thing your trying to pin on God’s shoulders is man’s responcibility not God’s. -

Adam didn’t surprise God. You can’t surprise a Being who know everything which God does. The Bible says Jesus was slain before time began before He even created the earth so your premise is wrong. And the Socratic method which is something even heathens is incorrect. Meaning if you start statement is wrong every statement after that is wrong, too. Just ask it ask a question if you don’t know the answer.

If God is not omniscient and omnipresent he wouldn’t have prepared a sacrifice in the person of Jesus Christ even ‘before the foundation of the world’ was laid…He knows.

1Peter 1:20. If Jesus was predestinate before the foundation of the world to save us, how can we possibly think Adam and Eve truly had free will.

I’m sure someone has already added this comment, but if God knew Adam would sin, he knew there would need to be a process of reconciliation for the relationship to be corrected, which meant that the reconciliation would only be possible through a perfect sacrifice, which God knew could only be himself. Therefore, God knew he would have to sacrifice himself for his creation… And yet he still created them. So in response to this question, I ask the question, “If God knew that his creation, possessing free will, would inevitably require him to suffer, why did God create mankind in the first place?

Romans 8:29; Eph. 1:4-5; 1 Peter 1:20 tells us that God foreknew the Lamb’s blood before the foundation of the world.

It’s important to keep in mind the distinction between “foreknowledge” and “causation”. God can know the outcome of an event while still allowing the individual to choose. I often use the limited illustration of feeding our daughter in the high-chair. One sprig of broccoli and one cheerio. I know which one she will choose but I gave her the choice. Was God surprised? Not if God was all knowing…which I believe He is.

He decreed it because He knew it would happen before it happened.
Him knowing it would happen beforehand doesn’t mean that He MADE Adam sin.
Atheists have the false impression/notion that because God KNOWS something to be true, it means that He controls the free will being and makes said being commit the sin.
God is in control of all, but He voluntarily dialed back some of His control/power over humanity so that free will could be possible. This in turn also makes Him, love, possible.

Just because Adam sinned and God wasn’t surprised and foreknew, doesn’t mean His plan didn’t include the freewill of man. 14 tomes freewill is mentioned in the Bible. He gives us plenty of commands that we must choose to obey and often we don’t yet we are saved, even the command to love which must be free. God says there are miracles, secrets, and mysteries only reserved for Him, and it is sinful to describe things God hasn’t revealed to us and proclaim that they are true. We shouldn’t aproach the Bible with preconceptions and prebeliefs as already being true, we should abide in His Word fully and believe only the things that agree completely with His Word. If anything denies His Word or anything in it includinf freewill, we must cast it out, not accept it.

Why limit your perception to those two options?
God was not surprised by Adam’s sin. God is not surprised by our sin either.
God did not decree sin. He allows individuals the choice to accept Him or accept sin.
A holy God who loves us is absolutely justified in the punishment of evil sin. If an earthly parent who loves their child is justified in punishing a disobedient child, how much more so is God justified in disciplining us? -
Both premises are wrong. God wasn’t surprised and He didn’t decree it. He allowed it through free will.

If God is the creator of all things, omniscient, then Adam was decreed by God to rebel of his own free will. There’s no escaping that.

How can man surprised the all-knowing, all present, all powerful God. God gave Adam a chance to be with God for all eternity but Adam xhoose to disobey God. If you will read the Bible there in the midst of the garden laso was the Tree of Life.

We do not know if he was or was not eating of the tree of life. We just know he was forbidden to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil which evil already existed.
Isaiah 45 speaks of God:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting
That there is none besides Me.
I am the Lord, and there is no other;
7 I form the light and create darkness,
I make peace and create calamity;
I, the Lord, do all these things.’I think it was possible that they ate from the tree of life because their removal from the garden was so they would not take from the tree of life.

Verse 4 is key “before the foundation of the world”
So no matter what Adam did or didn’t do, Yahweh already made the choice to choose us in His Son.

The only time free will was on earth was with them. God knew what was gonna happen. He already had a plan in place. Adam and eve just messed up free will for the rest of us because now we are born into sin

Jesus himself explains to us in John 3:18-20 why most people don’t get get saved and it does not have anything to with his Father stopping them. Jesus has explained in John 3:16-17 why he was sent by the father and it was to save the world.
Then Jesus gives us the reason why not all the whole world will be saved. Verse 18 And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. 20, Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. Here we have from the mouth of the Lord himself why most of the world will not be saved and its because they love darkness “their sin” more than light “righteousness”. It has nothing to do with them being made that way by God, no “they loved darkness more than light” basically they loved their sinful ways and lives and so would not come to the light “Jesus” as he would have exposed them. Another passage worth meditation is 2 Cor 4:3-6 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4,The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. So its not almighty God doing this to them but the God of this age “satan”.
How does satan blind the minds of people? Using sin, thats how! They love their sin and will not let go of it, notice Jesus refers to sin as being darkness back in John 3:18 the Gospel is light but it cannot penetrate a mind that is in total agreement with darkness that mind is veiled by its darkness and that is the work of the God of this age “satan” seen working in them. Nowhere in the New Testament do we see God involved in blinding any ones eyes of the gentiles “ever”, yes there is a temporary blindness placed on Israel only in accordance with Gods will but never the gentiles. So we see from these passage in John 3 and 2 Cor 4 that God is not the one responsible for mans unbelief but it is man himself loving darkness “sin” and so not coming to Jesus and so satan operating in them and blinding them to the consequences of there sin. -
Is it possible that God had a plan for man (us his children) from the very beginning? That plan was the creation of the Heavens and the Earth just for (us). For anything that could possibly go wrong big or small, God had and still does have a pre-ordained plan for correction or redemption. Two examples of something going wrong would be the rebellion of Lucifer trying to overthrow God and Adam listening to Satan, disobeying Gods’ instructions. For both God put his pre-ordained plan into effect immediately. God did not intend for Adam to sin, but he was not surprised because he had his plan of redemption and put it into motion immediately. Gods’ plan was for man to live in and expand the Garden of Eden. Today that plan is still in the making with the New Heaven and New Earth that will be in place after the 1000 year millennium reign. I would like to know your thoughts on this subject. Thanks

To be dogmatic, Adam’s sin wasn’t surprised God, for indeed, He is the All-knowing God. But the question is why He allowed Adam to sin and that is because of God’s decree of election Ephesians 1.
