The perspiciuity of scripture is for a child or a theologian.

There’s more than enough there for every level of thinking. Even the greatest scholar started on common grounds.

This is what makes the Bible marvellous, it is written for both, both can enjoy it, and both can profit from it.

For both. The common people will accept it as it is without doubt. The scholar may accept it, have some doubts, perhaps qiesrion it but will never defeat it as it is fool proof, and anti error.

Follow up questions:
Can a common man accurately understand the Bible without scholarly analysis?
Why does some insist that certain words translated by Bible scholars as All were being interpreted as Elect? Wouldn’t it be better if they put the word Elect so people don’t need to argue about its meaning?
Isn’t it when something is translated from one language to another we respect the grammar and word usage definition of the language we are using for translation?

Common people. That’s why Jesus spoke in stories (parables). When we do mission work in countries that can’t read/write we tell them stories and parables to share the gospel.

Looking at the Bible by writing style there is balance. There are the gospels & Acts that are written in a very down to earth way but then there are Paul’s epistles that are written in a more scholarly manner.

Every believer has an anointing which teaches them inwardly. But outwardly some people have been called to teach the Bible and others are to be taught and made willing to submit. However, we are not to teach as we please – by the way, its rather interesting to still see the remnants of what Nicolas of Lyra, Martin Luther, John Calvin faught against. That is, the Scripture being bound hands and feet by tradition and authority of the Church. James warns us, ?”Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly”(James 3:1).
To cut the long story short, those who teach need to understand that, Scripture determines what the Church ought to teach. I know we love our camps but still they must submit to scriptures.

It can be understood generally by all people, but as a living document it does impact each person differently. The same person can go back to the same passages at different points in their life and see and understand new things they didn’t before. For some people some of the more confusing portions do need a commentary. A lot of Christians knock the Jews for having their mishnah and other commentaries but really it’s very smart! Why can’t Christians or shouldn’t Christians have other scholars and works to help us understand. It doesn’t mean one needs to be a scholar or that the Bible is geared toward scholars. It is an ancient and foreign document to many peoples cultures and mindsets so it is important to keep that in mind and try to understand the historical, linguistic, and cultural context it was written in and gives account for.

It may depend on which genre within the Bible you were speaking of. The Bible is a library.

It sounds like the Bible is being thought of as a single document when it is multiple documents written over time and put together as a collection. Dependent on the purpose of each document and genre then the audience will very but the value remains for everyone who takes the time to read and understand it.

Remember, the natural man can understand the things of God because to them they are foolishness. We must be born again from above, the Holy Spirit has to give us a new heart, wash us with cleansing water, put a new Spirit inside of us.
The chief Shepherd put shepherds to lead the sheep not goats, the goats new the the gospel, believers also need the gospel for regeneration.
“For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. The Bible is for everyone, but reading it is a matter of choice and someone is directed by the Holy Spirit.

There are way too many scholars here that will tell you us common folk have no biblical knowledge and need to repent because they say so.

The book of the law was written to be ready by the priests to the people, and also read by the people, a copy was also kept and read to the king. The new testament was written by one of the most well taught scholars of the law, taught by a rabbi who has a school of thought in Judaism named after him, and then was chosen to spread God’s word by God Himself to preach and plant churches amongst the regular people. So the answer is it’s supposed to be read or et least heard by everyone

I think it depends on the book. Books like proverbs and psalms were meant for the common people but there may be others that were meant for scholars.

It was written for common people, after hundreds of years it can take some study to know what was understood by the common person back then.
