A similar question was asked a couple of days ago but I didn’t see any answers giving a solid argument, or one that could be used in a debate. So I’ll ask it again with follow up questions.

Can we lose our salvation? If NO, what is the PURPOSE of living righteous? Why not just live life, party, get drunk, sleep around and know you are not going into the lake of fire? Wouldn’t that be fun/better than feeling following rules when you will be saved anyway?

If YES, how would you explain to someone making a practice of lawlessness that it is wrong and most likely will not enter the kingdom of heaven?
Lastly, what is the different of salvation and being saved?

I would say that one who is actually saved cannot lose salvation. I would also venture to say that if this person continues to see no problem with continuing in their old life that they are not truly saved. It takes more than words or a fancy prayer. It is acknowledging that you are lost without Christ. A person who is truly saved cannot not continue down their old path. True repentance is turning away from ones old self/dying to the old life/ and being born again in newness.

The evidence of salvation is the fruit of the spirit. Why wouldn’t someone who has experienced God’s grace want to follow Him? Also, once you are saved the Bible says no one can pluck you from God’s hand. Salvation isn’t works-based which is what it becomes if it can be lost, based on man’s works.

I don’t think you are asking the right question. The doctrine of perseverance of the saints teaches that that those who are born again will continue trusting in Christ forever. God, by His own power through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, keeps or preserves the believer forever.

I honestly believe that we can lose our salvation and I’m very aware of the emotion and tension that this debate prompts. Here’s my reason for my perspective. Romans 8:38 – 39 talk about things that cannot possibly separate us from the love of God and I absolutely agree, but something that isn’t mentioned is that while we have free will to choose God, we also have free will to reject Him both before salvation and after . So while nothing and no one can pluck us out of God’s hands, there’s nothing saying we can make the free will choice to walk away from God. Unfortunately it happens all the time. JMHO.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: – John 10:27. The bible describes Jesus as the great shepherd. Those of us who have surrendered our lives to him are like sheep in his flock. The shepherd spends his entire waking hours caring and tending to the flock.

These are who are His.
Not just anyone who “call themselves saved because they received”
clearly, His own follows Him… repents and pursues holinesss

Those that are sealed with the spirit demonstrate the spiritual fruit, the inner work of the holy spirit transforming the person. Where there is no transformation there is no fruit, and maybe no real repentance, no real salvation

We are COMPELLED by His grace and love to love and demonstrate grace as he does. He changes us so that we no longer wish to drink and smoke and sleep around. Its slow and it doesn’t happen all at once, we are spiritual babies but I’ve seen it happen, and it’s happening to me. Apologetics aside, this is just honest witness.

Once TRULY saved, always saved. Someone that you are explain was never truly saved. They might of said a prayer and even been baptized, but its what is in the heart that matters. Many people will miss heaven by a foot, the distance between the head and their heart. You can believe it, you can know it but true repentance comes from the heart.

If we could lose our salvation, why does God say we will bear fruit, or why does He say that He changes our desires from within, or why does He say he will complete the good work He began in us, or why does He saying that he will never leave us nor forsake us, or that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit, or that once we are saved and born again that we have eternal life, or why would He say that no one can pluck us from His hand, no power in Hell, heaven or Earth? That would be a whole lot of contradiction if the truly born again could just earn the loss if salvation with bad deeds. I mean we can’t earn salvation with good deeds but we can unearn it with bad deeds? Completely opposite of Scripture, a lot of them.

The best reason to do good is because you love God. God says if you love me, feed my sheep, and if you love me, follow my Commandments. God says my sheep hear my voice and they follow me. If we aren’t really born again, not really his sheep, then we might feel like following awhile but we will walk away. We weren’t ever true, we just acted true. Wolves in sheep’s clothing. These people are warned about in churches. If we love God, we follow His commandments, not perfectly, but we try. Jesus said, Who are my mother and my brothers? Only those that obey my Father in Heaven. Why do we obey our parents? Hopefully out of love.
The next best reason is trust. Even when we have what Augustine called disordered loves and our flesh leads us to love something more than we love God, at least for awhile. We might not love God as well as we should that day, and desire something more, but we can remember that we trust Him more and His ways are better and perfect. We have a tendency to grow up and rebel against our parents because we find out they aren’t perfect. But we should obey God always because He is and that should draw us back to obeying our parents too until we leave the nest.
The worst reason, but still an excellent one is that we fear God. To be clear, it’s not God that we should fear but His punishment. Now, some won’t like that because it clearly says fear God, be in awe and fear of Him. It’s more like we are fearing His just nature. We start going down a sinful road and our Heavenly Father raising us up right will spank us and if we had listened without the spanking, we would not have needed that. If you purposely run a red light and get away with it, He may start to make you feel guilty. If He knows you are going to keep doing it, He may just let you try your luck until the cop does the spanking for Him. Or you might be stealing and he lets your leg get broken to appreciate better what you had and have. See Moses clearly said to the people at the bottom of My Sinai in Exodus: ” Don’t be afraid of God, but fear Him SO THAT YOU MIGHT NOT SIN.” So then fearing God is not just being awestruck. It’s knowing God breathed the sun into existence, a raging fireball that has the power of like a million nuclear bombs, and our star/sun is one of the smaller ones. Wow. If God can breathe that kind of destructive power into existence and we don’t worry about what kind of punishment is coming from cheating on taxes, or cheating on our wives, or cheating on tests even, then we need to learn to fear God. Expulsion from college, loss of marriage, thousands in fines, and years in jail are solid punishments and they hurt dearly. God will bring the proud sinner down, especially the Christian, because the Christian knows better and he can’t work with you if you’re working against Him. Be sure your sins will find you out. If that promise doesn’t make you fear God, the results will.
There’s no such thing as a guilt free, consequence free salvation. God is often harder on His people. To whom much is given, much is required.

I’ll give an answer but it will sound like a spineless answer but it’s not.

Can we lose our Salvation? No, and yes.
I’ll explain:

1. The writers of the NT often compare stuff from the OT. It’s usually about Jesus and how/ why Jesus is better.

For example:
a. Yearly sacrifices.
b. Once and for all!

a. Bulls and goats cannot remove sin.
b. The Lamb takes away sin!

a. Abel’s blood spoke ‘Vengeance’
b. Jesus’s blood spoke better than Abel.

2. There are many comparisons but when start with Adam, we begin to see stark a contrast already. Here, we are able to make sound conclusion just as the writers of the NT did – and that is magnifying and amplifying the solid man Jesus and his solid work on the cross.

For example,
a. what good work can you do in Adam that will remove you from Adam’s wrong?
Nothing.
b. Then what bad work can you do that will remove you from the righteousness of Christ?
Unless you believe that Adam’s work is greater than the Last Adam – then the answer is also nothing.

So, no you CANNOT lose your salvation.

3. Before I explain how you can lose your salvation, I thought it’ll be good to share how salvation is ‘gained’

a. The forgiveness of sin has only ONE condition and it isn’t faith, believe, confession, repentance, etc. No, the only condition is this: “…there is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood”.

b. Blood was shed – entire world forgiven.

c. To enter heaven, your righteousness must surpass that of the Pharisees. Their righteousness comes by law.

d. There is no man who could for thousands of years fulfill the law – except He who comes to fulfill it – that man Jesus.

e. There no more law for us to fulfill. Our righteousness comes by faith. Anyone who believes he is forgiven shall not perish. Any forgiven person who does NOT believe will be condemned for his unbelief in Jesus.

f. 1. Forgiveness is imputed because Christ obtained that forgiveness he does not need – when he died on the cross.

f. 2. Righteousness is imputed (by faith) because Christ obtained the righteousness he does not need – when he fulfilled ther law.

4. Yes, you can lose your salvation. How?
When you believed you’re forgiven yet you try to obtain righteousnes by works of the law.
GRACE and LAW does Not mix. Read Galatians and see how the use of the Law will nullify the grace of God.

5. Finally, about human nature. We’re are such evil creatures – we look for loopholes and exploit it. We say “Aha! I cannot lose my salvation so that means I can do whatever I want!”

Even 1 John 1:9 is exploited. “If I sin, I just confess. I sin again, I confess again – since He is just and faithful to forgive…”

Such low class life is not what Christ saved us for. This salvation plan is good but good things has loopholes.

Can we lose Salvation?

God gave me gift of salvation and it is permanently secured…. ( Eternal security)

But why do some renounce Jesus after accepting him as in Hebrews 6:4-6….?
Those who uphold eternal security defend it further saying something like…. “if anyone renounce Jesus that means he is not given the gift at the first place cos God can’t give you what you will lose”….

If losing faith is a mean of knowing that you have not been given, how then do those who believe in eternal security know that they are secured and that they won’t fall away to show the sign of not being given the gift?
Or is it a Gnostic knowledge…Those who believe in eternal security are they Gnostics?
If they are Gnostics then why do they preach or admonish us wanting us to see what only them can see or know…..

Eternal security has no ground but to mislead and confuse to a libertine heresy….

Thank you for asking a difficult question on an important subject. Christians might have differing views, but let me articulate mine. I do believe it is possible to lose your salvation if you purposely reject Jesus as your savior, but NOT for doing bad things. Hebrews 6:4-8 specifically refers to believers who had turned their backs on their faith. That answers the question (for me) as to whether someone will be saved if they die having rejected the faith they once had. The passage is pretty clear that they will not get to be with the Father anyway.While we will all be judged, the bible talks about our rewards (or crowns) in Heaven, and the Lord will clearly reward those who have served Him more faithfully. Those who meet their maker having made a profession of faith which they still hold on to, but who have not demonstrated good works as they should WILL inherit eternal life, but are less likely to receive the “crowns” which our Lord will distribute. I trust that this makes sense, but I encourage you to explore further. There is then still the difficult question of “backsliding”, which several believers experience for some period during their walk. To me, this is a temporary period of feeling distant from God, but when you essentially still retain your faith, and your assurance of salvation, and will hopefully be restored to a vibrant relationship soon. However, taking a conscious decision to reject the claims of God and to deny the Son is a rejection of heaven, and God is unlikely to then force you to heaven against your will.

We cannot loose our salvation, you cannot achieve it by works or loose it by works, salvation (aka being saved) is a free gift from God.

With that being said you should feel COMPELLED to live righteously because Christ gave us a gift we did not deserve…. the alternative was an eternity in hell.

Also our works in this life directly influences the spiritual rewards Christ will award us for eternity at the judgement seat.

If you are truly saved, the things that we used to do are no longer a desire for us because that was guided by our old master the flesh. Now we are a new creature guided by a Righteous Master and we will desire to please Him by righteous living

We cannot lose our salvation because Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith. A Christian who has the Holy Spirit indwelling him or her is not sinless, but the Spirit is transforming (that’s the important word) to be more like Christ. And that means our transformed heart is bent toward living righteously because we want to make Abba proud!

Why would someone having the Holy Spirit living in them have the desire to live a life of lawlessness? I would question anyone’s salvation who desires to live such a life. As Paul had the desire to do what was right but he couldn’t carry it out. His desires were pure.

First let me say that in John 10:27-30 Jesus clearly says His sheep will follow and they can’t be snatched from Him. He doesn’t say that everyone claiming to be His actually is. We will know them by their fruit. That’s what the Bible teaches. I have two questions. 1) If you are a born again believer, the Holy Spirit lives in you. If you have the abiding presence and guidance from Him you will have a God born desire to follow Jesus. Not that we won’t slip up, but how could the desire not be to do the will of God, if His presence is truly in a person? 2) Is there anyone in your life that you truly love that you intentionally live in a manner that dishonored them? Understand, I realize we all will fail…I’m talking about our intentions. We are all broken by sin in some way shape or fashion.

Pretty sure I responded with the evidences that show you are a child of God so I won’t repeat them again.

I guess I figured that was enough for a person to distinguish between a real christian and one who hopes he is a Christian.

The reason that we don’t go out and live it up in sin is this. How did it feel the first time your dad had to come down and bail you out of jail? Or to take you back to the store to confess that you had stolen something.

Substitute any sin you wish and you can’t escape the disappointment in your father’s eyes.

Oh you may not see it now but we realize we will come face to face to explain our works, not our sins. Sins are forgiven. But we will answer for the good or bad deeds.

And if we sear our conscience too much, there is a sin unto death for the Christian. And when we face that, other Christians are not to even pray for you.

1 John 5:15-17 (NKJV) 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin [which does] not [lead] to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not [leading] to death. There is sin [leading] to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not [leading] to death.

Basically we can use our security as a license to sin and at that point, we are an embarrassment to heaven. It’s just better to kill us and take us to heaven, in that circumstance.

Read John 15, specifically verse 2, 5, and 6:

15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

If someone is practicing lawlessness, they aren’t practicing obedience to God.
When you truly have faith, your thoughts and actions reflect that faith; you seek Him with all your heart.
There’s a lot of “Christians” out there that claim they believe. It’s one thing to say it, it’s another to mean it.

All the saved are secure and will be raised to live during the Millenial Reign of Christ. During such period the “rewards” for faithfullness will be recieved by those who led lives seeking to glorify HIM! At the end of the Millenium there will be a final rebellion; it is my belief that those who weren’t rewarded during the Millenium will harbor a resentment that Satan will capitalze on to seduce them into his rebellion. This is why we are called to live holy lives…it is insurance for our own well being!

If your desire is to live that way, those are the fruits that tell you aren’t saved so aren’t really Christian. You don’t want that if your born again, truly saved, so truly Christian. Calling yourself Christian, going to church, even reading the Bible, those things do not make you a Christian.

I say NO, you can’t lose your salvation. And to answer why not live in sin, there are so many reasons.

1 – You were Born Again and given new motives toward righteousness, and will not want to live in sin anymore (if you were not Born Again, then you have not been saved yet)

2 – The Holy Spirit within you would be grieved, and also you would feel the misery in your own conscience while you are sinning

3 – Father God treats us as children and will bring discipline and punishment into our lives, while we are choosing sin, as part of His promise to save us from our sin. It can be pain, it can be jail, it can be whatever He deems necessary for us to let go of the sin.

4 – Sin victimizes ourselves, our families, and others. It is forbidden because it is unloving and unwise.

5 – You can drive other people away from God and effect their life and even eternity negatively, by living in sin. For example – one Christian in Russia beat a boy mercilessly. That boy grew up to become part of the USSR that criminalized true christianity and threw thousands of Christians into jail to be tortured. This is part of the end result of that first christian living in sins of anger, rage, and violence.

Let my say like this, first: we are not perfect, perfect we are in the haeven, second: our salvation belong to the Lord Jesus first, and can not be lost, third: yes there is sin and sining, in our live, but we know Jesus who forgive all our sins and heal all our disices is in Psalm 103: 3, fourth: our yes to Lord Jesus was and is fore ever and ever.

When we read scripture in context and with hermanutics we see that Romans chapter 1 to chapter 16 that we are all totally depraved and deserve the wrath of God. But God in His mercy Forknew or chose the elect before the begining of time to be saved. For no man can come to the Father unless the Father draws him and all the Father calls come. So God saves all that He entends to save and this is called grace. We will always be saved and can NEVER lose it. Any other place in scripture where people say “oh this is where you can lose it” is not talking about the elect. It is always talking about the lost. Don’t believe me, that’s fine but go read it in context and you will quickly see that it is not about the elect at all. Once we are saved by Christ we are a new creature and walk in a newness of life. This doesn’t mean that we won’t sin again, but we will not walk deliberately in unrepentant sin. We will sin, repent, and move forward trying to become more and more like Jesus.

Man is so sinful, that if we could lose our salvation, we would all lose it. In fact we would have lost it within 48 hours of obtaining it.

Again, when my son was born we couldn’t stuff him back into my wife’s womb. Jesus. Once he was born he is my don. He’ll always be my son even if he becomes a serial killer. Now, because I train him in Christisn theology he will most likely become a good, by human standards, person. It is the same way in the spirit. Once we are born again, we are the children of God and we can’t become unborn again. It is a not a concept in Christisnity. Once we become children of God we can commit murder, adultry and marry several women(David). Even though he commited these terrible sin it didn’t stop him from being a child of God. In fact God said he was a prophet and sman after God owns heart. This is a difficult concept to grasp. So I encourage you again to buy Tony Evans series called Eternal Security. You can Google Tony Evans. Go to his store and purchase the series. I know you didn’t do this because his stuff takes 40 days to come. You can’t blame the doctor if you don’t take the medicine that he proscribes for you to get well. Please don’t ask this question again until you listen to Dr. Evans series. If you have questions after that then ask us but take the medicine first. We can’t help you if you won’t help yourself. God won’t help you if you won’t help you. God says don’t cast your pearls before swine. Brother, you are acting like a swine , a pig.

No you can not lose your Salvation. What happens is before conversion the only free will you have is to sin, period! Upon the Lord changing ones heart through regeneration, even so causing them to become a new creature in Christ, the bondage of free will to sin is broken and gives birth to the free will to obey Christ. Therefore when one is saved they no longer desire the things of the flesh but have been moved towards obedience to the Spirit.

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and shave shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

the question is not would they loose their salvation but were they really saved to begin with. if you’re truly saved you wouldn’t be thinking about living in the world you would be thinking about how to glorify the Lord and how to live in a way to honor Him, the last thing on your mind would be to live in a way to dishonor Him

First the terms for the experience of heaven bound salvation should be understood. Initial, ongoing and final. We can be born again in Christ, continue to receive the engrafted word of God (James 1:21), taste of the heavenly gift and turn from it and thus forfeit (Hebrews 6:4-6) and not endure until the end which is final justification. If we do not accept those terms above then the Bible will seem to be in contradiction when it is not.
