It doesn’t save but it’s something God says to do as an identification that we’ve been buried with him raised into new likeness of him in Jesus Christ

The long answer is, Very Important. It’s the biblical way to be clothed in Christ, and not what you can do in the flesh. (Ex. Dietary laws, circumcision, sabbath days, etc. Galatians 3)
It’s also how we get into Christ’s death. (Romans 6)
We must accept His righteousness and what He’s done for us, acknowledging that our efforts will never save us. His righteousness alone is sufficient. Then we are forgiven and our sins are washed away. (Acts 2:38-40) This gives us hope to move forward away from our sinful life. We can live for Christ out of gratitude and not out of legalism empowered by His Holy Spirit.The short answer is, way more important than modern evangelicals make it. The very mission of the church is found in Matthew 28:18-20.

The Bible tells us that we are “Baptized Into Jesus”. Do you want to be in Him or out of Him? That is the point where we contact Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. The water itself does not save us but it is an act of love and obedience to our Savior and shows Him and others where our heart is. Jesus did it and told us to be baptized and I believe it and I did it!!

I think it’s the wrong question.
Yes it is commanded in the Bible to be baptized.
But salvation should not be “well do I really have to be baptized to be saved”
It should be I want to follow the Bible and it’s teachings. Not whether or not you have to be baptized to be saved. -
Early Christians are practicing this. It is an outward act of an inward truth. It is your public declaration of your faith and commitment to Jesus. When you have accepted him as your personal Lord and Savior, you have entered into a covenant with Him. You became His. Water baptism is a ceremony which attest to this new covenant you have with Him, it is a celebration of your new life in Him, and again a public declaration of your loving relationship with Him. It is like a wedding ceremony. And everytime you do the ‘breaking of the bread’ in the church, that is like your “anniversary” – upholding the covenant you have made at the beginning when you got baptized. Water baptism is not a requirement for salvation BUT a very important part of a growing Christian’s life who is sincere in pursuing God.

It’s of the utmost importance. Jesus commanded it. The early church demonstrated it and hence we still believe and still practice and obey Acts 2:38. It’s the only plan of salvation. It’s a token of His ownership. It symbolizes His death burial and resurrection. It’s the BORN AGAIN..

Water immersion is just as important as confession, repentance and the understanding that in immersion you receive the indwelling Holy Spirit. A complete faith obeys all of these.

A Saved person wouldn’t refuse Baptism. While baptism doesn’t save, like circumcision, its the sign of the believer. Jesus modled it and commanded it.
Think of it in the context marriage. Refusing baptism is much lime a marriage. I couldn’t simply declare myself married. I could have declared my love for her and said Im commited but refused to have a ceremony and publicly declare it. If Im really commited why wouldnt I take those steps?
Jesus asks us to love Him and commit ourselves to him and has ordained a ceremony for us to publicly declare that.

Water baptism is for those who accept Jesus as Savior AND Lord! It is a public acknowledgement of your faith and it is obedience to the Lord! It is NOT necessary for salvation, as it is something you do as a result of your salvation!

If Jesus got baptized by John why would you think it’s not required of his followers?

John’s baptism is water Jesus’s baptism is fire and Spirit. Luke 3:16

Not essential to Salvation, but it is a Command. Think about the thief on the Cross beside Jesus. In paradise but not water baptised !

As a member of the local church it is very important coz it is a command and it signifies certain things within the Church but in regards to salvation not necessarily.

John 1:26-33 ..John the Baptist says that he baptizes in water, but Jesus baptizes in the Holy Spirit. Water baptism is symbolic but it is not needed for salvation. Jesus didn’t get baptized until He was in His 30s.

God demands it. At Pentecost in acts 2 3000 souls were saved 3000 souls were baptised. Matthew 28.29. God commanded it. Acts 8. The Ethiopian eunuch was saved baptised and Philip was raptured. The life of the true believer right there. Baptism is a command but not necessarily for salvation

Baptism of water does not save you. It is an outward expression. I wear my wedding ring which outwardly shows my marriage. However if I never wore one I would still be married.

Since it is a command of God, I’d error on the side of it being quite important – as important as any other command God has given.

First of all if you can get baptism do it why is it so hard for people let’s humble ourselves. Jesus did it without needing it. He wants us to follow his ways to live like him to imitate him now if you lived nowhere near a water source or you had a situation like the thief in the cross that changes the whole game now. But we have no excuse if it’s possible to be baptized why not do it ? Do it brother just look how all the diciples apóstoles practiced baptism. -
How important is a wedding ring?

It’s extremely important because we’re commanded to be baptized, but it doesn’t have anything to do with salvation. Salvation is through Christ alone.

Very important. We indentify with Jesus death & rise from the grave when we are baptized. When we go under the water, that is symbolic of His death. When we are lifted out of the water, that is symbolic of His Resurrection. It is a command of God, so it shows we love Him. Jesus says if you love Me, then you will keep My commandments, so it shows the Lord and others that we love Him. It also tells the world, especially the dark world, that we are a Christian now.

Jesus thought water baptism was essential enough that He exampled it for us. Unless there are extreme circumstances which prevent it, like dying on a cross as the thief, why wouldn’t anyone follow Jesus’ example?
