Can anyone tell me about the slavery in the Bible???Did God condone slavery or how about the stoning….can anyone educate me on that.

No, God did not condone slavery is most people understand it. There were provisions for people to have two pay off a debt by working for someone as an indentured servant. God put provisions in so they could not be mistreated, they could not be stolen and sold as property, they had to be restored after a certain period of time if the debt wasn’t paid off, and even for provision of the servant after they are released from the relationship.
There were other misuse of it that were regulated by God also. It was very common in the pagan Nations that the Hebrews came out of, and we’re surrounded by

Slavery by Jews in scripture was not the same as slavery I’m America. It was more like servitude until your debt was repaid.

Seems self evident. You can own people as property under biblical law.
Leviticus 25:44-46 New44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life”

God never condoned slavery. Take the worst case. The Hebrews in Egypt. After the 1st Pharaoh died, the new Pharaoh didn’t know Joseph & became scared of their great numbers so he enslaved them under task masters & treated them very bad. Mans idea
Just because an acct is in the Bible, doesn’t mean the Bible or God approves of it. The Bible is a history of man, esp the OT. & mans corrupt & evil doings.
Now there are private servants also called slave, like a cultural thing but they are told to treat them nicely. -
Yes there was slavery. Yes they were SINNERS just like me and you. And NO GOD did not condone that…just like HE does not condone our sin today. Stop complicating.. the simple.

Slavery, as practiced in the African slave trade, is punishable by death in the Old Testament and condemned (the Jews did not have the power to impose the death penalty by this time)
in the New Testament.
It is called man stealing in both Testaments.
God also provided for freeing of slaves, especially during the Year of Jubilee.
That Bible verse is carved into the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. -
God didn’t institute slavery.. but remember he gave man dominion over the earth and won’t interfere with his right to choose for himself but he will judge unrighteousness eventually

The Bible says that Christ will free you from slavery of death and damnation.

@leumas stoning was directed by God for communities to remain Holy. A Righteous God demanded righteousness from his people. The Law required stoning as a function of ridding a community of sin and disobedience to God’s Word!

God does not condone slavery. Some slaves were former free people, who had to take on themselves a yoke of slavery to pay off debts they owed. However, every 7 years debts were wiped off. God did not want perpetual slavery for people.

Stoning was a means of corporate/societal punishment.
Slavery though can take on many forms. God (I believe) frowns on the brutal/common idea of slavery. Indentured servants/slaves were common in poor societies. Indebtedness is a type of slavery.
It is better to be the type of slave that Paul confessed to being. L&P -
Thou shall not steal dealt with slavery because you were stealing someone’s labor. Dennis Prager talks about this. He’s Jewish so he understands the Old Testament. So yes The Bible has always been anti slavery.

Slavery in concept pertains to submission…even Paul mentioned this in Philippians 2
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,

Leumas Ralte Slavery in the Bible is actually a form of indentured servitude. It allowed one to pay off a debt owed to a person with dignity because in those days there were no social welfare systems.
With that being said, much like divorce, God had to regulate it, because the sinful man has a way of corruption and sin.

In Rome and other cultures “slave ” often meant indentured employees……The Bible reports on many things that it does not necessarily mean an endorsement.

We are called the bondslaves of Jesus Christ Peter 2:16, Ephesians 6:6, 1 Corinthians 7:22. It isn’t slavery that is the problem, it is the tyrant who treats their slaves cruelly that is the problem. Rather than object to slavery, we should be objecting to the cruel tyranny of those under them. Servitude is nothing to abhor but rather an honor because we are the most like Jesus Christ when we serve Him and others.

No God did not condone slavery. Just because something is found in the Bible does not mean God condoned it. Murder is found in the Bible as well but of course God never condoned it either.

We must understand that there is a difference between what the bible records and what the bible condones. Slavery was never condoned.
