Yes. We are to enjoy our spouse. It is a good thing. Having so many kids you canât afford them is a bad thing. God gave us common sense.

Nothing wrong with that. Preventative birth control is not sinful. Killing a living baby is. God designed sex to be enjoyed by married couples even if they arenât actively procreating.
Scriptures do not specifically forbids it. Catholic doctrine against it misapplies, interpolates or eisegetes the story of Onan. He was not sinful for contraception, but for disobeying God’s specific command, to give Tamar children, not contraception in general.

I say that it is okay to use a condom for birth control. The Bible does not forbid birth control. The only recording of a birth control method in the Bible is found in Genesis 38:9. This is when Onan used the pull out method for birth control. He was having sex with Tamar, which became his wife because her husband died before they had a child. Her husband was Onan’s older brother. By law if the older brother died before having children, his widow had to marry the next in line to have a child to carry on the inheritance of the older brother. God was angry at Onan and took his life. It was not that he used a birth control method that made God angry, it was that he violated the law of percurring an heir for his brother. Why so strick in this case? Because God had a plan of salvation. Onan’s dad was Judah, and through Judah came the genealogy that lead to David, then to Jesus. So how did this line continue? Tamar was sent home to live as a widow and forbidden by Judah to marry the next younger brother, who was too young to marry at the time. But one day she dressed up like a prostitute and seduced Judah to sleep with her, and she got pregnant giving birth the Perez, who is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus.
Others point to this scripture as evidence God hates birth control, but in the full context of scripture, this is not true. So, any type of birth control is okay with God, but not any method that procures an abortion.

Yes! The commandment of God to “Be fruitful and multiply” was only for Adam and Eve and the ark survivors. It wasn’t for all people and all times. It is not responsible for married couples to have lots of kids in this day and age. Couples should not have kids until led by God which would usually include being financially stable, marital stability, and ability to raise one’s children financially and emotionally. For some couples who have health issues, financial issues, addiction issues, unstable marriage, or some other issues, or just do not want to have children, shouldn’t.

It is interesting. First all apologetics or “speaking in defense” of our faith should be backed up with scripture. I see far to many answers on here from people giving opinions with no scripture reference.
Now that I have said that I will say this. A few weeks ago I was talking with a young pastor who said “my wife and I decided that her womb is Gods so whatever he decides to do with it, it is up to him”. I was astounded by this answer, I still am.
Now, having read the Bible several times I have yet to find the word “birth control” in it. I do though, believe God wants us to take care of whatever family he gives us. Now, if your faith puts how many children you have in “Gods hands”, I for one have to say what a awesome faith you have. I think a lot of Christians could learn something from your faith. I think though before we do anything we should seek Gods guidance. Weather you use birth control or not, seek God.

After 3 years of not trying but also not using any form of birth control, I got pregnant by my husband..who I recently had to leave due to abuse, prior drug history, and inconsistency – and heâs a âChristianâ – so whatâs the advice in that regard?

I donât believe God wants us to birth babies ourselves into poverty. Most ppl on welfare/food stamps are on them bc the number of children they have. Nobody is expected to have 10+ children. If women truly followed the command of do not deny your husband- and didnât take precautions, imagine how many children that would produce?

The Bible has a lot to say about children being a blessing, I think we should be careful (as saints) about whether or not our view of this subject is tainted by the worlds priorities and way of thinking.

Any birth control method that prevents conception is part of our freedom in Christ. One may be missing out on blessings by not having more children, but that is their choice.
God killed two of Judah’s children because they spilled their seed rather than impregnate their dead brothers wife which God had commanded them to do. The question arises, was the reason God told them to do this because He was going to use their seed as the Messianic line? Either way, they disobeyed and God killed them.
