New to this so please bear with me. If by definition, apologetics is defending the faith, who is the object of that defense.
We as believers do not need to defend the faith to each other. We, as believers, should at least believe some of the basic tenents such as the existence of God, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Jesus’ propitiation for our sins, that salvation is a free gift of God—not of ourselves lest we boast, and that Jesus will return. So far I am seeing a bunch of yammering between believers about things that don’t mean a hill of beans worth a difference. Preach Jesus and Him crucified. Now, if the object of defense is the unbeliever, the Word is foolishness to them that are perishing and there eyes have been blinded. So we are defending the faith to blind, dying people who have no ability to understand what they are hearing. Now, if the unbeliever is searching, I would assume they are being led by the Holy Spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit will open their eyes and ears to see and hear. We should be unified in the faith to present Jesus to those who are searching for answers. This is my first and only post. So far I have been responding to others.Will not be able to respond. Plan to read and meditate on the Word and rest in my Lord as I prepare for chemo. To Him be the glory

Very well said and I agree. But you gotta look at a few things… there are people ( non believers) in this group searching for the truth.. there are Jewish people.. There are Muslim people.. there are Catholics.. Etc.. all up in this group either searching for truth or trying to cause these arguments. This is a spiritual battle and Satan is going to do whatever it takes to win. He doesn’t fight fair. So if he can portray us to look like arguing, prideful, and divided fools.. he will.. that being said.. the best way to trick someone is to make a counterfeit that is so so close to the real deal. For example if I walked up to you and have you monopoly money to buy something.. Are you gonna let that fly?? Heck no.. so I need to make some game money that looks the part.. well the same thing fires with religion.. and the parts that everyone is arguing about are that kind if stuff.
The easiest way to spot a counterfeit is to see WHO GETS THE GLORY? GOD or man?

Agreed. That is why I said that those who are seeking will be led by the Spirit and we as believers need to prepared to present the gospel accurately and in unity

Satan’s main goal is to deceive people away from knowing God by using twisted theologies. If the devil can convince us that specific doctrines are not important than he can slowly seduce us away from personal fellowship with God.

I think I did list basic doctrines that all Christians should believe and be prepared to defend
We have to be in the Word to know the Word. God will give the words to speak to those who need to hear -
iron sharpens iron so debate between Christians is fair game. And yes there is UNITY if two believers have a row once in a while.

As Uriah stated above, I think maybe it’s more about working through things with each other, iron sharpening iron. But, I think we should always remain humble in all things. The pridefulness, arrogance, and mean-spiritedness undermine the Gospel.

I believed when I was young, but as I went through school, apathy and intellectual barriers led to me almost losing my faith. When the apathy abated, the intellectual barriers remained. It was apologetics that helped clear those barriers. Yes, we should preach Jesus crucified, but the Bible is replete with examples of evidence being shared to bolster or enable faith (Thomas, Paul at Berea, Paul at the Areopagus, Moses and the burning bush, each foretelling prophecy fulfilled). The basis of apologetics is to help bolster or enable faith in the Gospel. Apologetics has the ability to change the type of soil, to use the Parable of the Sower analogy. Apologetics is nothing if it is not followed with the Gospel.
