I always wondered that

Culturally speaking because a man’s son was considered an extension of himself.
Precisely, there’s no good way to explain why someone does something without being that person.

Well, covenant or federal headship is a concept that is carried out in scripture. For example, we inherited a sin nature by Adam our covenant head. My thinking at first thought is maybe Ham’s grandson was cursed because although Ham sinned, as headship of his lineage, cursing the grandson would be essentially cursing Ham.

Keep in mind that Scripture contains different kinds of curses. The one in view here seems to be a prophetic utterance of malediction upon the descendants of Canaan. This is not an idle or knee-jerk vengeful proclamation, but one of prophetic foresight. Compare this with the curses announced in Deuteronomy 27:12–26 that serve as a warning of what would happen to the Israelites if they disobeyed.
sometimes we must compare a person’s actions to other biblical teaching to see that it was wrong. The case in point is a perfect example. The text simply tells us that Noah became drunk, but nothing in the immediate context mentions that he did something wrong. We need to compare his actions to other biblical passages, such as Ephesians 5:18, to see what the Bible teaches about drunkenness. Regarding Noah’s cursing of Canaan, there is nothing is Scripture to tell us that it was inappropriate.
We also know from Scripture that God is fully capable of predicting the future (Isaiah 46:10). In fact, when a prophecy is from God, we can be certain that it will come to pass, since He can never be wrong (Isaiah 46:11, 55:11). On the other hand, if humans prophesy apart from God’s inspiration, then they will show themselves to be false prophets because their prophecies will fail (Deuteronomy 18:22; Jeremiah 28:9).1 Noah’s words did come to pass in the future, as we read that many of Canaan’s descendants were either killed or put under tribute by Israel (descendants of Shem) during the times of Joshua and the Judges, and later by King Solomon.
His words came to pass, so we believe he was inspired by God. Other than that, the Bible does not reveal the precise reason why Canaan was cursed instead of Ham. As such, we can only speculate.

You misinterpret the Scripture, it was Canaan which is son of Ham committed the immorality. Not Ham.

The sin of the father is not the sin of the son. (Although the father could faulted for the son because of lack of guidance). Likewise, the specific sin of the son is not the sin of the father. (????)

After they came out from the ark, God blessed them. So the curse could not go directly to someone God has blessed.

Noah was a drunk, and obviously lacking in discernment at this time. I personally believe he was suffering from some PTSD after having had to listen to the screams of the drowning and those pounding on the outside of the ark when it was too late.

Ham didn’t commit the sin. Ham isn’t the youngest son, Japheth is. There is no word for grandson in Hebrew, your sons sons were called your sons. Canaan, youngest son of Ham, was a sexual pervert who performed a vile act on Noah while he was drunk. Canaan was cursed because he committed the sin, all Ham did was find out about the sin before anyone else.

Noah never wanted to be mocked and blamed by the community.
He was probably ashamed to see his own son surviving the curse.
He also did not want to be affected by the curse due to parental care and love.
Cursing the ground son was going to be highly felt by the son. -
In the Table of Nations, specifically Genesis 10:15-20, we see that the descendants of Canaan inhabited the land eventually promised to Abraham’s descendants.
According to John MacArthur, in whom I have a great deal of confidence, the curse on Canaan established a. historical and theological basis for Israel’s later conquest of Canaan. Of course, the Canaanites were thoroughly pagan.
In Genesis 9:26-27, we are told that Canaan would be Shem’s servant and that Japheth would be enlarged and dwell in the tents of Shem. Shem was the father of the Israelites.
