When you doubt your salvation are you committing sin? Does your doubt prove you actually aren’t saved? Question I’m currently wrestling with, any scriptures that answer these questions?

I used to think that after my salvation, I had to actively behave righteously to keep my salvation. Now, I understand, that my salvation does not depend on my works, but on receiving the Holy Spirit, His word as truth, and repenting of my sins.
I think doubt is a natural part of any belief. If you haven’t got the ability to question whether something is true or not then it is unlikely to grow
1 John 5.10-13 for the answer.
2nd Corinthians 13:5
No I Don’t think so, I believe that most if not all believers at one time in their relationship with God has had doubts, however I don’t believe this is something which should be something which continues to happen in a believers life, if that happens then there could be cause for concern, which would make it a time for a spiritual checkup
Ultimately, though, you should probably be confident in your salvation if you are truly saved. You might question your level of “goodness”, I suppose, but you should know for certain that you have received Christ.
I wrestle all the time. If the Lord appeared to me I would fall of my face and like Peter say “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” I know that I am saved but I know I am a wretch. I try to be like Jesus but I fall so short.
When you doubt, let’s be honest, we are sinning. Jesus told us not to. But what we do with that is the real question. It does not mean we are banished from his presence, it doesn’t mean we aren’t really saved. It means we are human! It’s proof that we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We are therefore in dire need of God’s grace. Remove the guilt from your thinking. You are a child of the King.
Mark 9:23-24 – (I find this verse very comforting.) I would say if someone has never doubted, then their faith is kind of shallow.
If you are doubting your salvation you are living in sin
Mark 9:24
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
There is no question you can ask that God can not answer.
John 10:28
28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
Romans 8:38-39
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

It’s OK to doubt. Even John the Baptist doubted Jesus when he was in prison. If John can doubt ??♂️
I think we all at times have questioned our Salvation at times, I know I have, especially when I have failed in some way in my walk with Jesus, when I have fallen to temptation and sinned in some way, My questions would be could God really still love some one like me, of course the answer yes because I live in faith by His love Grace and mercy. The problem is I know my faults and failures. Thank you Jesus.
Remember at the last supper when Christ said – One of you will betray me? Everyone was afraid it was them…
We can doubt ourselves and our worthiness.
We KNOW Christ saves, and to have that concern shows that you believe as you work out your salvation with fear and trembling…
You know who He is.
Faith of a mustard seed, and our salvation is about God’s desire, not what we think or feel.
Your faith doesn’t save you.
Matthew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Paul struggled with this same question. See his question regarding who will deliver him from his body of death.
Remember the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. One of the things if he can get believers to do is doubt they r saved. We fight not against flesh n blood but principalities..we as believers are in a SPIRITUAL WARFARE..and will be until we go home. If ur doubting bc ur sinning WILLINGLY..u might wanna..oh..idk..stop it?! Lol…but if u are walking with the Lord..and doubt enters ur mind..I wanna say it’s a tactic satan likes to use for our mind is his battlefield. Just rebuke him in Jesus name..and say greater is He who is in you then he in this world. Amen. ?? be blessed and remain steadfast..the Lord is coming soon. Amen. ?????
I think doubt is perfectly normal. We should doubt, because finding the answers will strengthen our faith in the long run.
We all have our doubts on occasion especially in the modern age. However it’s important to know that Jesus did exist, historical fact. The hostility of Rome and Roman record keeping proves it. Secondly the Holy Roman Church has survived 2000 years, a Chuch built on His very teachings. Take these two elements into account and there is no need to doubt.
Go to John 3:16 5:24 11:24-27 and meditate on. Assurance is necessary to live the Christian life not feelings and worry. I used to look to my feelings for assurance. Now I look TO WHAT JESUS actually SAID.
I would say if you feel convicted because of sin to the point where you are doubting your salvation, I’d say you are saved. On the other hand if you are enjoying a sinful lifestyle with no remorse- you might want to examine some things in your life
And my personal experience I spent 20 years wondering if I was truly saved and doubting and come to find out I had strong reasons to doubt. I wasn’t truly saved but I believed I was because some pastor who should have spent less time pastoring and more time studying his Bible led me in the sinner’s prayer one time and I thought that if you just ask Jesus to come into your heart one time that means you saved. But the truth is if you still go on living your life like he was before you were saved and it’s just like Jesus as an addition to your life you already had and you are not completely transformed from the encounter with God. I spent 20 years under a false profession that I truly believe myself but once I really got saved there was no question in my life because I wasn’t the same person
Paul Washer said once if I came in here late to a meeting and I told you the reason I was late was because I got ran over and killed by dump truck you would look at me and think I was either a liar or I was mentally ill. And how much bigger is God the dump truck and how much more change would you be in having an encounter with the Living God as opposed to having an encounter with something as big as a dump truck
No it means you repenting a lot and probably therefore are saved.
I doubt my salvation basically every day. If someone asked me if I died today would I go to heaven or hell I would probably say: “I have a higher probability of being damned then being saved.”
Again….we are not told in Scripture that it is ok to doubt
Get to know the biblical Lord Jesus Christ from the Word of God and you will start to have more faith.
It’s normal to have doubts. When John the Baptist was in prison, he doubted/questioned if Jesus was the Messiah. A messenger talked to Jesus on Johns behalf and Jesus didn’t rebuke John at all. Instead, He performed miracles as proof that he was the real deal, then told the messenger to report to John what he witnessed today.
According to RC Sproul. there are four categories of people in regards to assurance.
1. These that are not saved and know it.
2. These that think they are saved and are not.
3. Those that are saved and have doubts
4. Those that are saved and have the assurance they are.
Doubt does not necessarily mean you are not saved. There is much in first John about assurance. James has much to say about what faith is.
Everyone has doubts. The important thing is to doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs! God bless you.
Brayden smith, i would highly recommend Commentary in Galatians by martin luther..i have had more assurance from that book and commentary than anything…i am by nature focused on myself and analytical, but the Gospel has freed me to throw my arms out to my savior in assurance that He keeps His word. If we cannot deny that we are sinners, then you can be assured that Christ is yours if you trust He can save you…focus on Him and not your subjective internal states and assurance comes!

I mostly doubt my salvation when I’m committing sin. And not hating my sin.
We are commanded to make our calling and election sure from Scripture 2 Peter 1:3-11.
Yes it is a sin because you are not trusting in the power of christ who saved you from all sin. As for the second question, it does not mean you are not saved if you asked this question 🙂 there are times where all of us struggle with the question (myself included) but what we need remind ourselves that Christ is the one who saves, not us. Just repent of your sin and believe in the promise of Christ 🙂
When Peter looked at the storm, he was afraid and sunk. As long as he look at Jesus, he was walking on the sea. When a person look inside his own heart and judged himself of his salvation by his good deeds, he often doubted. But remember that your salvation is a free gift from God. It will endures forever. You must always look at the heart of God, who forever forget your sins by the shedding of the precious blood of his son Jesus Christ. If you really reckoned and acceptedJesus as your saviour in your heart, there is no fear. So remind yourself that you are already redeemed by the blood of Jesus and try to pursue a fruitful christian life.
Even Mother Theresa had her doubts. In those times, confess your sins to God, pray for forgiveness, grace, and strength.

Paul told us to make sure we were in the faith. In fact even he madebsure he wasn’t running in vain.
No I would say doubt is what the enemy uses to attack your faith. Hebrews11:6- without faith it is impossible to please God. So the devil probably says if faith pleases God than doubt displeases God. So the devil uses his fiery darts of doubt to come at us. You maybe just havent fully believed how much God loves you. Perfect love cast out all fear so we can have boldness in the day of judgment. The devil knows that and is always coming at us in some way shape or form. Always remember 1 John 3:20 if our heart condemns us God is greater than our hearts and knows all things. Remember also in 1 John he who practices righteousness is born of God. Do you practice righteousness? Do you desire to be holy? Jesus said John 17:3 this is eternal life that they may know God the Father and Jesus Christ whom He sent. And how do we know we know Him? 1 John 2 says this is how we know we know Him if we keep His Commandments. Those who say they know Him and do not keep His Commandments is a liar and the truth is not in Him. 1 John 3 also says we know we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren. Do you love being around christians? Just keep reading your bible and know your identity is in Jesus not our limited thinking minds. Believe His word regardless of your feelings. 2Cor5:7 we walk by faith not by sight. Keep making that faith choice to believe what God’s word says and sooner or later God will line up your feelings with that choice of faith
If your sin bothers you it is a good indication of humility and conviction and for those desiring the Gods forgiveness, has asked for forgiveness, believing on Jesus Christ for salvation and forgiveness is a great indicator for salvation and just concerned for the weightyness of our sin!
We see as though through a dark glass, 1 Cor 13:12. We won’t see clearly until we see him face to face. So, I take it, doubt is part of the life of faith.
You are not sinning by questioning your salvation. Ther doubt is not about Jesus, its about your belief.
Do you doubt or do you just realise you are not worthy of God’s grace. Big difference.

Doubt is part of a growing faith. We all have some. That’s why it is called faith. But it is faith based on reason and evidence.
Yes. God says you are saved. Trust his word. Dont call him a liar. That said hes a big God. We are humans. Bring your cares to him and he will work with you.
Some would argue that the very fact that you are worried about losing your salvation or having doubts proves that you ARE saved. You can’t doubt something you dont believe in. But to answer the question, doubt is a part of human nature. To say that by doubting we are not truly saved is contradictory to the Bible and it’s wisdom. A more popular verse that many people like to quote is Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Another is when the Bible talks about the righteous man falling 7 times and continuing to stand; when the Bible points out the righteousness of the man specifically, it is a way of saying that the man, though he fell, never stopped being righteous. We cannot lose our salvation. God is a deep well of mysteries that we cannot fully explore and to doubt should really just push us to hunger more for His word and to desire that knowledge. We will never fully know everything about God and many things will never be answered until we can ask Him face to face. Doubt can ultimately be good or bad depending on where you go with it; it can either push you away from God (but you still cant lose your salvation), or push you to want to find the answer and grow your relationship with Him.
