1. Are Satire & Sarcasm useful to “rebuke” others?

“..if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.”

One example I remember Sye Ten said back on nonsequiter was that story when Elijah asked the other guys (they were having a magic off or something) basically where’s your god, on the toilet? So you can use scripture to back any position I’d say.

No. It’s commanded of us to be meek, gentle, and have charity. Sarcasm and mockery are not in line with these attributes.
What is the purpose of a rebuke? My understanding is that it is meant to make someone’s error known to them and an attempt at changing that behavior. Sarcasm and mockery are the least effective methods at getting someone to change their beliefs and actions.
Furthermore, does sarcasm and satire help to spread the Love of God? Does it create peace and clarity? God is not the author of confusion or turmoil. If your methods of rebuke cause more of either of those it is not useful.

I’ve heard Christians argue for sarcasm in theological debate because Paul clearly used it in some of his rebukes in the bible. I don’t know examples off hand of where they are, buy i’m pretty certain they exist. I would argue that just because Paul did it, doesn’t make it right. Furthermore, it is difficult to be loving when utilising sarcasm and satire to make a point of rebuke and correction. Actually, for the most part it’s downright insulting and prideful. Sarcasm and Satire is more or less designed to make me look better and someone else look stupid. Therefore by design, it’s Prideful. I’d be willing to stake all I own on it that Jesus never made Snarky, Sarcastic remarks to make a point to the disciples, Although i have no proof for that.

Our goal as Christians is to know Christ and make Him known. To be sarcastic and satirical will not do any good when it comes either one of those things. The second greatest commandment is to love your neighbors and responding this way does not accomplish that, it only serves to hurt and demean your interlocutor. The best way to approach wrongful actions is in a gentle way, with respect, and good intentions.
“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.” 1 Peter 3:15-17
