Most Bible versions interpret the word as calamity, misery, etc. So, while evil can be a proper translation, I see calamity as a better, or more fitting interpretation.

A lot of Christians are having confusion to the scriptures causing their faith back down, due to misinterpretation and lack of understanding.
Before going to that, there are things that we need to consider: the translation and the etymology, the symbolism and the context.
There are 170,000 estimated English words, while there are only 45,000 Hebrew words, and one Hebrew word can actually be translated to lots of English words.
In Isaiah 45:7 the word “evil” does not actually refer to “moral evil”. The word “evil” on that verse is translated in Hebrew word אֵיד (eyd) means “adversity, calamity, and distress”. That’s why, other English translation renders the word Disaster or Calamity.

The context of Isaiah 45:7 is God rewarding Israel for obedience and punishing Israel for disobedience. God pours out salvation and blessings on those whom He favors. In conclusion, God is just and give punishment to those who do wicked things, while give rewards to those who are obedient to Him. God cannot be immoral and evil for God is Just, and He is Just because He is good.
It’s not evil as in rape or child molestation it means storms or chaos instead of peace.
Who said darkness has to be evil. If God created the whole universe and half of it is filled with dark matter, then did the devil make the dark matter. God created the night and day, so how can the dark be evil. I think there is more to the words used than what it seems
Isaiah’s point is that there are not two gods or forces in heaven, one good and one bad. Cyrus was a Persian, and Persian had a dualistic concept of God and the world. Their good god they called Ahura-mazda and the evil god Angra-mainya. The first had created the light, the second the darkness. He is saying God has no opposite. Satan is not and has never been God’s opposite. There is one God. He is not the author of evil; evil is never “original,” but always a perversion of something good. But God is the allower of evil, and He uses it to accomplish His eternal purpose of bringing together all things in Jesus (Ephesians 3:8-11 and 1:9-10). If God could further His eternal purpose by allowing His own Son to die a wicked, unjust, horrible death on a cross, then He knows how to use what He allows for His eternal purpose.

Evil in that Verse is Calamity means the punishment of People that forget God. The Calamity will come upon those people.
It also said He is terrible but that’s because it is old English. The word for evil is calamity or judgment. It is all about perspective. The word for terrible is awesome.
Probably the best way to understand this verse is to look at another verse that might well help explain this apparent contradiction. Jeremiah 24:8 And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt: Ok you can see from this verse that it is talking about figs beings evil, we all know that it is impossible for items like fruit and veg to be evil, so why is this word used to describe them? Ok the Hebrew word used in both verses Isaiah 45:7 and Jeremiah 24:8 is the word “ra” this word often means “evil” but it can also mean “bad” in the case of the evil figs this should have been translated “bad” figs as in not fit to eat. So Isaiah 45:7 where “ra” is used and translated evil could have been translated by all these other words – Bad – Disagreeable – Malignant – Unpleasant – Distress – Adversity – Displeasing – Unpleasant – Unhappiness, unhappy – Sad – Unkind – Injury – Wrong So a number of other possible translations are possible.
The problem of evil is not a great argument against the existence of God.

While the Bible is generally plain in its meaning, proper interpretation requires careful study and is not always an easy task.
