It’s a consequence of evolving as a social species. Humans are not the only animals that use morality.

Morality is simply how people treat other people.
Objective simply means as opposed to subjective.
Humans are social beings we have to interact with each other so we have to create morals that are objective meaning not by ourselves, but with others, that makes it objective.
If you want to appeal to a god you have to first show that he exists, then you have to determine which one you’re talking about, then you have to figure out what he thinks is moral and immoral.
And of course the Bible is not the epitome of moral.
The Bible condones slavery also teaches you how to sell your daughter into slavery, tells the Hebrews that they could rape foreign virgins.
So what’s objective about that?

Sam Harris believes in objective morality and is a neuroscientist who uses his expertise to explain it.
I on the other hand think morality is subjective and relative.

I also think that Christians tend to put their fingers in their ears and yell “LA LA LA!” When an atheist explains how morality can be either objective or subjective or relative.
“But if God didn’t say it then how do you know? Why can’t someone else just say they have a different opinion?”. Well, if God isn’t the only one with an opinion on morality, I hate to beat it to you but your definition of morality is subjective too because some other people have a different opinion and you’re just trying to use your standard of morality as an objective standard… Just like everybody else…

If our thoughts are mere byproducts of chemical interactions involving mindless matter and energy, wouldn’t it mean our thoughts are nothing but physical reactions determined solely by the laws of physics and chemistry? If so, wouldn’t the sense of having some measure of control over our thoughts be just an illusion? How could mindless matter and energy acquire self-awareness or the ability to think in the first place? Wouldn’t it be more likely that mindless physical properties would remain just that –mindless?

I genuinely want to understand what people think “objective” means. If it means “it says so in the bible”, then that is biblical morality or “Christian” morality or Hebrew morality, or possibly even YHWH’s morality or Jesus’ morality. Why this is should be called “objective” I have no idea.

Objective just means morality comes from outside of us. That’s where God enters the frame.

According to this leading atheist. There is no morality, we only dance to dna’s music. So for them, those 911 terrorists were not evil, they just dance to their dna’s music.

Ugh, I dread the responses I’m going to get from these stubborn athiests. Sometimes I wish I could just not respond, but, I go and respond anyway.
Gets frustrating because I know only God can change them. I know this because He did with me when I was an athiest. Hoping these conversations one day make them think when they are crying out to God in there moment of need, like most people eventually do.

Is rape wrong? If you say it is wrong like 99.9% of people. I think morality is objective and not subjective.
