How would you know if God is really calling you to be a pastor?

TESTS OF THE CALL OF GOD
1. Does it agree with God’s general plan as set forth in His Word?
2. Can your circumstances be made to agree with what seems to be His leading?
3. Does the Holy Spirit bear continual witness that this is the will of God?
4. Are you still called when there is no challenge of adventure and no glamour of heroism? If called to an insignificant field, would you be willing to go? If you were the only one to stand, would you stand?
5. Are you willing to pay any price?
6. Are you merely “impressed” that you should go to a certain Field, or is it a deep “conviction”?These principles may be and should be freely used in testing the call of God for one’s life.

Thru scripture,your circumstances,you feel the burden to care of the Lord’s flock, affirmation from your pastor,leader,brethren and from others..

This question has plagued me for years. But Ive come to divide it. The key to this is –
Preacher or Pastor? They’re two different breeds. I’ve come to realize that I Love to Preach the Word of God. Pastoring is a whole nother beast. You’re the Shepherd. It’s not about Preaching. First – you have to have the gift of Hospitality, Humility, Love, Patience, Leadership.
and Prayer. These are pinnacle characteristics of Pastoring. Caring for a flock requires flexibility. Study over the list of Biblical Mandates to be a Pastor. Don’t forget the business side of the equation. Could be boring, long, treacherous days and meetings. The romance of it all is – out front, preaching Gods Word, congregational growth, serving communion, worship team- but it’s the behind the scenes that gets at you most. You’re attacked on all sides. By your own. – your every decision is questioned. You must be resilient, have fortitude.
Preaching/Evangelizing on the other hand is Exposing Gods Word ! Proclaiming Truth with Love, Passion, and Vigor. Traveling. Coordinating, scheduling, following an itinerary. A tailored schedule.
They both are well deserved professions. Both should be a burning desire in your heart and gut. Constant on your mind. You dream of it, you eat, sleep and desire it. There should be a hunger and thirst of it. Not just on certain days… but it’s usually a never ending desire. Typically, people should’ve already pointed it out in you that you should or would make a good Pastor or a Preacher. – Be blessed -
Search for God first he will guide you where you need to be the closer you get, more the holy spirit will get closer to you thus will reveal you new things, teaching and so on don’t rush anything, like he said to marth why are you worried about many things, only one thing is needed that one thing was what Mary was doing sitting next to the Lord and listening to him. This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

You can’t sleep everytime you forget it. I’m sure even if you try to forget it you’re always hunting by your mission. You are always happy when you preaching and satisfied.

Calling is both internal and external :
-you feel the calling inside you
-you hear the calling from the people around you, friends, family, fellow christians.Sometimes it’s first external : “you would make a great pastor”, “did you think of becoming a pastor” ? Sometimes it’s first internal, but it has to be both.
It’s not about you and God only. But God, the Church and you -
1. Are you desperate enough such that only by preaching the gospel to others, you feel satisfied? 2. Do you delight in the word of God and like to share with others who are hopeless in life?

It would be confirmed by many others, not your best friend, not your inner Trump that’s convinced you’re a stable genius, not some test you fudged because you subconsciously wanted it to prove a preconceived notion, but multiple people who have heard you preach, who have witnessed your care for others, and over a long time, not just a one time event.

God will show you signs .

He puts it on your heart and brings it to memory. If you still don’t listen he wakes you up at 3:30 in the middle of the night and reminds you, ok well maybe not 3:30.

When you can’t be satisfied doing anything else. Spurgeon said; “woe be to the man who stumbles into the pulpit”

For me it was the conformation of other Christians. I felt the call but was unsure, but after several people remarked that they thought I should become a pastor I felt the conformation.

Agreed but.. what if ur Pastor refuses. It doesn’t recognize it. ?

read the book, Called to the ministry, first. then make sure you have a tough shell because people will hurt you and your family. them sheep have sharp teeth!!!

Remove this cultural idea of receiving a call every Christian should be a pastor, we should incorporate our work.
We are all called, so to me I say if you are not going in there for job security you are called. Don’t be like Joel osteen, cheflow dollars, Td jakes, others; mega rich pastors. These are wolf in sheep’s clothing. -
Not when you can’t see yourself doing anything else… rather when you can do anything else but you choose to die to yourself and follow Jesus Christ into that hard calling! No one should enter ministry on a whim or just on a desire to do good, or for financial gain. If you are not called, you will not have the grace nor the gifting to do it. As a result, you will be frustrated, the life of God will not be in it, and it will be just a job, without satisfaction.
He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And ?he gave? the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,
Ephesians 4:10-11 ESV -
An old mentor of mine who has gone on to be with the Lord said this. If you are called and do something else, nothing you do will make you happy. Nothing you do will give you a sense of peace. If you move forward to follow the call, nothing will you give you more joy, more peace, and more fulfilment.

I’m not sure to be honest. I know that there are multiple things in my life that point that direction for me but t really puts fear into me. I’ve been a drug addict for 25 years and an atheist longer than that but God pulled me out if that swiftly and put me on solid ground in Christ. I’ve gained a very quick knowledge and understanding of his word and I love to teach people what I know about to word, I love to share the gospel and I have a burden for the lost as I was lost for sooo long. So yeah, in wrestling with it.

In my own humble experience, for me it is the Holy Spirit speaking it to me as well as dreams and visions and imaginings of being in front of a Congregation speaking, exhorting and pleading with them to stop listening to the World and to instead look to God’s Word in the Bible to know how we are all to live our lives. The feeling and Imaginings are so very strong I can’t mistake them for anything else but our Almighty Father in Heaven calling me to it. A lot of prayer helps too. ?

God isnt calling people to be pastors.
the reason being that protestantism is leavened with catholic doctrine. God doesnt want catholic doctrine being preached by his people.There are no Sents anymore. No one is to be a great thing in the kingdom of God. There arent people who qualify to preach Gods word because they will only preach the church doctrines.
God doesnt want a baptist teaching water baptism.
God doesnt want any catholic doctrine taught.
God doesnt want calvinism preached.
God doesnt want denominationalism preached.
“they shall NOT teach, for everyone shall KNOW the lord”. -
– God is calling you to be a pastor if you:
> love the word of God and love to teach and preach it.
> love to serve people first and give the glory to the Father
> are a bond-slave of Christ
> love to study the word of God
> love the Church (which are the people)
This is just a beginning -
If you’re in doubt about becoming a pastor, then wait until you’re sure.

He will set the appointments of those you are to teach. If you are called, He will provide the audience.
