Is the gift of speaking in tongues still being given by the Holy Spirit?

Yes it is. As are all the other gifts but you have to beware and let the Holy Spirit guide you to what’s truly of Him. You won’t have any peace about something that’s isn’t of God.

I’m not an absolute cessationist because I know God CAN still use miracles like healings and speaking in tongues (miraculously communicating with someone who speaks another language you don’t know, not jibberish) if He chooses, but the church has been established and we don’t need the shock and awe type miracles to give the church credibility anymore. We now have the full, complete revelation of God in the Canon of scripture. Those miracles can still happen, but they will be rare and they will never be for show. Churches full of people all speaking in tongues with no interpreters causes confusion and are outside of the scripture’s guidelines.

No, they are not. There are still gifts of the Holy Spirit, but no longer are prophesy as in God has new revelation apart from scripture, no longer the gift of healing through one person, nor speaking in other languages that are foreign to the person speaking. Those were gifts at pentecost and no longer are available. Just like there are no longer Prophets nor Apostles. The test for a Prophet was he had to be 100% accurate. Apostles had to be assigned by the Holy Spirt, they had you be witnesses to risen Christ and they had these gifts as a sign that said they were Apostles. Also, they used the signs for share the gospel.
There are other forms of apostles and prophets (lowercase a and p) but the words don’t all describe the same person or works/gifts associated with Apostles and Prophets.
However, there are still gift the church is given to edify the church that leads to God being glorified. God still heals, speaks through His word. -

Yes! The incident of speaking in other languages can happen today. But practically we donot see anyone having the gift of it today.

Not everyone gets that gift. It was originally given to spread the gospel. Many of the tongues today are from a different spirit.

The divine gift of speaking in tongues which god bestowed on the apostles is not at all what folks today consider speaking in tongues. The apostles were gifted the ability to speak in different tongues aka LANGUAGES so all who were there would be able to hear and understand. How and what folks are doing nowadays when speaking in tongues makes no sense to me. It has nothing to do with the divine gift of speaking a NEW UNKNOWN TONGUE

Just like the gift of healing sicknesses and illnesses and raising the dead. Those were for the Apostles. And they were gifts given to them that they could perform at random as with Jesus for the purposes of building the foundation of the Church. The Apostolic gift ceased with the death of the last Apostle and the closing of the cannon of Scriptures. The office of Apostle is closed. -
I believe all gifts are to those wanting the Holy sprit. Not his gifts.

Speaking in tongues happen to shows that God is within the disciples of Christ the manifestation of the power of God through them to see all the people that God is powerful and that no one can hinder them.
Nowadays the Gift of the Holy Spirit is not anymore according to speaking in tongues but the result of a true believers has the following: ?

The gift of tongues are not in operation today nor was it the only evidence of having the Holy Spirit. In context, the gift of tongues were used to speak in the other people’s language for them to believe in God and to hear the gospel. However, there are a prayer language that are tongues that is used in your private time as a talk between you and God and it is used to build yourself up when you are weak. If it is used publicly then it needs an interpreter to edify the church at large. These are different use of tongues. The first mentioned no but second yes. Romans 8:26, I Cor. 14:4-7, Ephesians 6:18, Jude 20.

I believe the Lord can do as He wills. Can missionaries speak in languages unknown to them, but spoken by people native to the region the missionary us in? I have heard such testimonies. However, the gibberish spoken in charismatic gatherings, us just that, gibberish.

Even the Apostles didn’t have have it until they died. Paul no longer had it at a time just before his death.
One other thing: the BIBLICAL gift of tongues was Always in a known language that needed 2 witnesses to translate it. It was not giberage as it is sometimes used today. That ended with the Apostles too. -

I am Pentecostal. Although MOST pentecostals believe that one MUST speak in tongues to show one is saved, or as evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT. I go according to the infallible word of God. Paul attempted to help them understand its purpose: “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-10.
The gift of speaking in tongues was one of many given to believers to aid in the building up of the body of Christ
The body of Christ is made up of all of those who give their lives to serve God in order to come to the fullness of Christ. They work in the ministry that He has appointed them, which differs from person to person, for…which is the Church. One more thing if I may say please, the rolling on the floor…outta of control shaking and laughing uncontrollably ALTHOUGH and UNFORTUNATELY alot of these things are seen in “pentecostal churches” or word faith teachings..THIS IS NOT OF GOD. The Holy Spirit does EVERYTHING IN DECENCY AND IN ORDER. satan has a counterfeit for EVERYTHING and looks to thwart the Holy things of God, this is where one MUST have discernment..the Holy Spirit will reveal what is of God and what is NOT. In conclusion, do I believe that the gifts of speaking in tongues is still given today..YES I DO..According to Gods will..purpose and plan, He gives to whom He sees fit. Its NOT for everyone, He may see fit to give u another gift, point is God knows the heart and if He gives you a spiritual gift as such, He knows that you will use it to edify and glorify HIM ALONE, NOT YOURSELF! ty for allowing me to share, love u all my brothers n sisters..be blessed all. #AMEN -
To help you respond to this question very easily, you should ask” Has the holy Spirit changed” or has God almighty changed? If you can correctly answer to these questions then your question will have been responded. God is the same today and forever hence his divine gifts remain the same but problem is not God rather mankind.

It’s amazing to me the negativity towards something that is scriptural. Even in the book of acts there are people who were saved but had yet to receive the in filling of the Holy Ghost. The apostle Paul said I wish you were all like me , and I speak in tongues more than all of you. I have learned that love is number one, we have people who speak in tongues at our church and we have people from different backgrounds who show no interest in going to that level , we love them all. When Jesus said that He will tell many “depart from me you workers of iniquity ” it is talking in context about bearing good fruit . A quick study on fruit will indicate love for one another is key. Not attacking someone for doing something scriptural that you don’t practice.

There is no biblical evidence that suggests speaking in tongues continued after the Apostles…its a relatively new concept within Chirches. Especially Charismatic ones..

It was meant to expand Christianity at the time. It seems to divide Christians as it is “practiced” now. Also, I have never seen it biblically used these days. Just babble and holy rolling.

Trae Cruz Mark 16:20 states that the gifts were to confirm the authority of the apostles, 2 Corinthians 13:1 says that when the perfect has come the gifts will cease and James 1:25 says the perfect is the law of God.
