In your opinion and of truth in scripture why do you think someone who says they were a Christian converts to atheism?

I’d say they probably were not Christian to begin with. Tares among the wheat so to speak

1 John 2:19 i’ve also seen many who claim christianity, then leave it say that they “just have many unanswered questions.” but i guess that shows they haven’t examined the scriptures, or maybe they have but with a wrong posture (versus knowing the purpose of scripture), or, and i see this a lot in the bible belt, there’s just not a lot of church leaders challenging and edifying their members nor is there a huge concept of discipleship.

They were never truly saved to begin with

In the last day people will depart from the truth faith and go where Twisted ears will lead them. I believe some churches could be at fault for not teaching sound doctrine. Most of our children will leave and go to college with people with different beliefs and they will question their faith. Most unbelievable know more about there faith than they do. Church is going to have to change on how they teach the word of God to the next generation of people. If another religion know more about your faith than you do then there is something wrong with that.

Is it right to think that maybe they weren’t Christian to begin with?
I know some people disagree but Christianity is a relationship.
When you’re in relationship and knowledgeable about your Creator, I’m pretty sure you’d never want to leave that relationship.
You’d fear the repercussions of being separated from Him.Was she forced into “religion” or was she a Christian? Just because someone attends church, knows the Bible, doesn’t mean they know Him, and He knows them.
Just my thoughts.

I have known men who were Christian,Wiccan, repented & came back.

Even among the 12 that Jesus called one turned out to be a traitor.

They probably never had the gospel in its entirety taught to them. As a result the discarded what they had, an insufficient grasp of the gospel, and turned to atheism. This is what happens when you read the scriptures with preconceived ideas or let someone dictate to you what you should believe without investigating on your own

You just stop believing. It is that simple, even though the path can be difficult and painful.

I think of Cain and Abel. Abel worshipped God with the correct motives and therefore truly knew and loved God. Cain, however, wanted to reap the blessings under selfish motives, and because of that God never paid attention to him. Out of jealous rage Cain kills Abel and ends up getting God’s attention in the worst way possible for him. Sadly, there’s many people who call themselves Christians for very similar reasons that Cain had in falsely worshipping God and when God doesn’t come thru for them they rebel against, renounce, and hate God for it.

James says if they fall away they were never really of us.
Jesus said the father gives us to him and once they are there they can’t be plucked from his hand.
So with that being said, any scenario of a true Christian turning atheist can’t happen.

Obedience to SELF. Their definition of truth: Only those that my OWN mind can comprehend= Trust to oneself alone.

Conforming themselves to the world. The world doesn’t have much to offer, they may come around. Sometimes we learn the hard way.

There are no atheist Romans 1. The person who says they were a Christian were never a Christian.
But they still have a chance to repent of their unbelief and be saved.

I wouldn’t say that I’m an atheist, but an agnostic. I spent 30-ish years of my life living as and believing I was a Christian. Was I ever? I don’t know, because I don’t know if such a thing exists in the full meaning of the word.
