Many a small COG will go through a whole week without making a solid contact with a new prospect. It would be embarrassing for the pastor and his church leaders to sit down on a Monday and ask who did we contact last week and what were the results? And yet in this age of growing population and new ways of reaching out; every church should have at least some prospects in easy driving distance of their church.
When you advertise on FB or G+ you get a report at the end of the month that tells how many visited your site and how many responded in some way. Certainly it would be good, if each Monday there was a report of how many mailings went out, how many tuned in to a web cast, who was new in the S. S. and in the youth group etc.
It is this backroom detailed work that is so often neglected and yet per dollar and effort spent will produce the best results.

I believe, Jim, that many COG pastors (young and older alike) feel intimidated because they are not sure they will be socially accepted by the public out there in the marketplace of life. They have had the experience of Holy Spirit baptism but are literally ashamed to declare it openly. Many seem to think there is some stigma attached to our message that makes it unacceptable…that it will be unwanted, so their presentation and declaration is silenced unless it goes forth to the few who come inside the worship edifice. The reality is that we should stand up bold in our faith as Peter did at Pentecost and declare Jesus Christ and Him crucified. A man must make up his mind whether ha believes in the Holy Ghost spiritually or is it just cultural? I fear that for some, Pentecost has become a style of worship rather than an experience in God. True worship is more than just style of worship. When we get things ready for guests to visit, then we can invite them in. I have seen some things happen in church that quite frankly I wouldn’t invite my neighbors to observe. We can be glad for who we are if we genuinely become who God has called us to be. It makes the ministry so much easier and more enjoyable. So much to be said in this area and so little time to write. Our young men need so much in the way of mentoring!

The better is how many souls? Just being busy is not the answer.

I live only a few hundred yards from the last church that I pastored and had resigned from that church 22 years ago. Many pastors have come and gone in that time period and I have never once had a visit or phone call from a pastor in the past 22 years.
