What about CoG PKs? Has there ever been a study involving them? Years ago, a good man was pastoring a CoG. The church required a good sum of money which the pastor himself took care of. His children today all despised the CoG and no longer attend a CoG. They told me they basically had no Christmas, no birthday gifts, no new clothes, no vacations, very little food at times and all because their father paid local CoG bills. State Office gave no support whatsoever, yet received monies each month from that small local church. So, what about PKs (Preacher’s kids).

Basically my father did the same thing when I was a child. We didn’t have much money as daddy was a self employed dump truck driver. No work in the cold winters. He gave to the church needs. I wore boys shoes to school in the third grade. He helped start the church but was not a pastor. I never held it against God for always doing without many Christmases. I don’t to this day…
I went through some of those tough times. Somehow those experiences made me Love The Lord and His Church more. On the other hand, at other times I saw many precious COG members make great sacrifice to be sure we were fed and clothed. I love God’s people who have shown me His love!
I am very proud of the lessons I learned being a PK. We moved every 3.5 years, many times very far away from family. At one church we lived in public housing, at another we lived in the church basement… God always provided what we needed and many times He provided for a want as well. It taught me that He is our source and how to pray in times of need. I instill the love of the COG in my children and more than that pray they learn to rely on Him like my family did
Praise God Libby.
Melvin: I think it’s a mixed bag, I used to go swimming with Jerry Goff when we were in our late teens; being the overseers son he had many advantages and went on to achieve his own fame. Others become spoiled because of to much attention. Still others feel that church life has cheated them out of a normal childhood.
That man’s first responsibility was to his wife and children, not an organization!
That was not good management. The pastor should not have to pay the church bills.
Its all in perspective & how the parents faith works. U don’t pastor a church for $$$!. If u pastor for the wrong reason, you will always embitter the children. And some pastors need a dose of Good common sense. Or a job!
it is poor management!! sad to say But the church will say he is a man of faith (which he is not) and the overseers will not be told about it and the poor pastors suffer.
I despise the term “man of faith” – it means “you aren’t going to get my support, just live by faith” Honey, I’ve been there and done that!!!
I told you about the time I told the Overseer that I used the little weeks offering to buy groceries and he said “that’s my money I don’t care if you starve send my money first”. Made me sick
In my understanding of the Scriptures YHVH (God) has laid out certain priorities that ALL of mankind should follow …….
1.) YHVH (God) …… YHVH (GOD) should be first and foremost in our lives.
2.) Family ……. Before YHVH (God) established any other institutions (Tabernacle, Temple, Synagogue, Church) He established the family, so after Him, our priority should be those that Yahweh (God) has given us personal responsibility to bring up in His nurture and admonition.
3.) Worship ……. this involves OUR personal relationship, and time spent with Yahweh (God) to learn to love, honor, and grow into a deeper, fuller relationship with Him on a daily basis.
4.) Work ……. Too many Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers, Bishops, etc. confuse this with No. 1, or No.3. (as I did, until I searched the Scriptures and learned what I am sharing here). Our work is NOT Yahweh (God) our first priority, nor is it our worship or our personal relationship with Yahweh (God). Most ministers would ABSOLUTELY condemn anyone in their church who put their work before/above their family, but because ministering involves Yahweh (God) we think it is okay to do what we condemn others for.
5.) Play/Pleasure ……. Yahweh (God) is NOT against leisure, pleasure, play time. In fact this is a part of Shabbat (Sabbath), and ALL the way back to Adam, man was told to take a day of rest/pleasure/Shabbat.
You may agree, or disagree, but this is where I felt Yahweh (God) lead me, and it totally helped change my life !!! BLESSINGS, in the name of Yeshua (Jesus) to everyone who takes time to read all of this.
Thanks Shane for sharing. I remember the good times being a PK. I was blessed. Praise his name!
add my thanks to that Shane
