Church of God folk used confusing terms when speaking about worship celebration. We were “shouting” not really with our voices but with our feet. “shouting” followed peaks in worship celebration. It was an emotional climax and often the person shouting claimed to not be in control, they were overcome by the Holy Ghost.
Shouting has gone by the wayside though practiced with Appalachian churches. It is a long lost phenomenon now reserved for study in university research in social settings.
I was raised, “shouting”, isle running, dancing and speaking in tongues. I remained that through the Army, at College and in my ministry as a pastor. I probably have run off more people than most claim they have won!
I am still running off people. Praise the Lord!!!
