“Worth seeing? Yes, but not worth going to see.”
__Samuel Johnson
Bucket lists can really get long.
There are so many things to see, places to go, and experiences to have.
But with time being our most valuable currency, we must make choices about this bucket list we’re compiling.
There are a lot of things we’d like to see; the question is: Is it worth going to see?
Everything doesn’t have be a big deal. Great experiences are often surprises. Meaningful moments and memorable memories are around us every day.
Sonja and I have had the privilege of living in some amazing places, places that are on people’s bucket list.
But we’ve mostly lived in very ordinary places; places that are not included in the vacation brochures and tour guides.
But in every place we have had amazing experiences and have compiled a long list of precious memories and friendships. Most of those precious memories and friendships were made while traveling from one ordinary place to another.
We were very intentional about this. Most of our travels have been in the line of duty. But early on we decided that since were going, why not enjoy the journey.
Why not?
It can be a trip to the grocery store, another day at the job, that trip you’ve made a 100 times to visit family…ordinary stuff, things you’d never put on your bucket list, events you’d never pay good money for…but oh how priceless they can end up being.
The Grand Canyon is on my short list of places I want to visit someday. I hope to get there eventually. But there’s been a lot of beautiful canyons along the way; I’m glad I was looking for them.
Let’s enjoy life, the life that is right around us.
The ONE THING for today: Bucket lists should probably be mostly limited to “Got-to-see”. But don’t forget to compile a “Good-to-see” list as well.
