FIRST To-Do: Vision (What do I see?) is attached to direction and purpose.

  • “A vision is a precise, clearly defined goal with a detailed plan and timetable for achieving that goal.”  _Steven K. Scott, The Richest Man Who Ever Lived, p. 33 | Added in 2008 to my quote file.
  • Vision is often general and vague.  It is more about a general direction that you know you must go in.  The clearer the better, but with all the uncertainties of life, often the best you can do is be precise on why you need to try.

SECOND To-Do: What systems do I need?

  • Getting to where you see yourself being will not be easy. It will require systems.
  • If you do something more than once, create a system to ensure that it is done effectively and efficiently. .

THIRD To-Do: And then you begin to set goals (“planks”) to get there.

  • Vision (what you see) is the direction and destination you headed towards
  • Systems are attached to the allocation of resources (people and material) that will give you the capacity to get where you hope to go.
  • Goals planks of the bridge you lay down one plank at a time to help you get you there.

How to develop goals? Set goals that increase the odds of you reaching your destination.

The two most important questions:

  1. What do I see?
  2. What is the one thing I can do now that will increase the odds I get there?

Three good resources:

  1. Atomic Habits, James Clear
  2. Building the Bridge as You Walk On It, Robert E. Quinn
  3. The ONE THING, Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan

“Pray beyond where you are.  Don’t use your prayer as a time to tell God what He already knows.”
