“Me and…”

“…and our brother Sosthenes…”

―1 Corinthians 1:1b

Hey Lee!

I hope you are well.

I’ve been thinking about Sosthenes today.

I remember many years ago preaching a sermon based Sosthenes. For some reason Paul’s mention of him piqued my attention and it continues to do so every time I read I Corinthians.

“And our brother Sosthenes.”

That phrase is pregnant with so much meaning. For example, it gives us a glimpse into the character of Paul.

I don’t know how much Paul knew about the influence that he was going to have on Christianity, but I am sure that by the time he wrote his first epistle to the Corinthian church he already knew that God had a very singular and important role for him to play.

Truth be known, he was the patron saint for all gentiles – the most important apostle walking on the planet at that time. But, he included Sosthenes. He didn’t have too, but he did.

For Paul is was always “Me and…”

And it is for all great leaders.

It is never about the leader, its about “we.”

Lee, don’t fill your day with you.  If what you’re doing can be done by you alone your vision is too small.

The mission must always involve taking others with us.

The ONE THING for today: The journey of life is not meant to be taken alone; take a “brother Sosthenes” with you every chance you get.

“Let no one ever come to you without coming away better and happier.”
