“When you say something, you think you are just saying something, but you are largely communicating why you had to say it.”
―Nassim Nicholas Taleb
I read this morning Matthew’s account of Jesus delivering a mute man (Matthew 9:32-35) and it occurred to me that just as it is possible to talk too much, it is also possible to talk too little.
The devil is not the only who will try to silence you.
Culture, “the crowd,” bullies, even your friends and family will ignore you and speak right over you.
Whether you are aware of it or not, there is always someone trying to silence you.
The Bible has a lot to say about speech. Much of it is warnings about speaking too much or speaking inappropriately.
But it does remind us that there is also a time to speak.
The ONE THING for today: Nothing changes unless someone first speaks up.
Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
