And earlier, on November 4th, President Trump addressed the severe Christian persecution in Nigeria, vowing to confront Islamists, while Ukraine announced plans to open new interest offices in Berlin and Copenhagen.

Finally, in Jewish history, our look back at November 8th brings us several notable events. In 30 CE, the birth of Roman Emperor Marcus Cocceius Nerva is marked; he’s remembered for humanizing the collection of the special tax on Jews. Centuries later, in 641 CE, the Arab conquest of Egypt brought a treaty that permitted Jews to continue residing in Alexandria, a community that had thrived there since 332 BCE. Fast forward to 1223, when Louis VIII of France enacted changes regarding Jewish debts, declaring that interest would no longer apply, and mandating that the capital be repaid over three years, with local lords taking on the role of debt collection.
