Walk through the marble halls of Washington, D.C., and you’ll find an ancient symbol hidden in plain sight — the Roman fasces.

When his enemies call him a king, he takes it as a complement, and if the newly redesigned ‘golden age’ Oval Office shows us anything, it shows us that Donald Trump views himself as a king. There is nothing ‘America First’ or even American in this gilded monstrosity, and when Fox News host Laura Ingraham was given a tour of it by President Trump personally, you can see the shock and disbelief registering on her face like fireworks on the 4th of July. But as you’ll soon see, that’s not the worst of it.

“Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.” James 3:5 (KJB)

Something that was previously and nearly hidden in the background before all the gold was the Roman fasces up over one of the main doorways to get into the Oval Office. It had always been there just very lowkey. But now that it’s been given the Midas touch, it leaps out at you like a big golden ‘X’, demanding and getting your attention. Maybe you have never heard of the Roman fasces before, the premier symbol of the pagan Roman Empire, but it’s plastered all over the halls and gathering places where our elected officials meet to make, or break, the laws they impose on us little people.

In ancient Rome, the fasces went before magistrates and generals as a sign of lawful authority—the rods representing unity and discipline, the axe representing the power of judgment. When American founders adopted neoclassical architecture, they also borrowed its imagery, believing Rome’s republican ideals could inspire a new experiment in self-government. Today the fasces appears on the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol’s doors, and the House of Representatives’ rostrum—symbols of order and national unity drawn from the very civilization that once ruled the world.

When America, the last great Gentile power, fills its halls with the symbols of that empire, it signals more than admiration — it signals prophecy in motion. The fasces over our doors, the domes like Roman basilicas, the eagles, laurel wreaths, and Latin mottos all whisper that the Roman spirit of authority is alive and well in the New World. Rome was the empire that crucified the Lord Jesus Christ, and Revelation says that its spiritual continuation will one day host the “And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” (Revelation 17:5). From Rome came not only political dominion but religious dominion, centered in a system that still bears Rome’s name. America’s imitation of Rome — in architecture, government, and power — shows how the world is being prepared for the revived Roman Empire of Antichrist.

Every carved fasces and gilded dome in Washington, D.C., is a silent sermon. It tells us that America, like Rome before her, has exalted power, pride, and empire over humility and righteousness. The fasces were once the symbol of the Caesars’ authority — and their fall. Soon, prophecy tells us, a new Caesar will arise — the man of sin, the son of perdition — who will unite the world under his rule.

Until that day, the wise Bible believer remembers that “our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20). Rome may rise again — but the King of Kings is coming to destroy it forever. To which we say a hearty “amen!”
