Before You Got There

⁵ before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; ⁶ but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.

⁷ And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Genesis 2:5-7 (NKJV)

However you want to reconcile the timeline, a simple reading of Genesis 2:5-7 shows that there was a whole lot of happening happening before Adam arrived on the scene.

There’s a lesson there for us…

It is very useful to remember that before you arrived something had already been going on.

Your arrival at a place or situation doesn’t mean that time has just begun; there is a history there, an environment, an atmosphere that already exists and it behooves you to step into the room with an attitude of humility and a prayer for discernment.

The ONE THING for today: Things may only start happening for you upon your arrival, but there is already a history and an agenda in operation before you got there. Best to be aware of that and move forward cautiously until you’ve read the room and know what it is you’re dealing with.
