Success or Significance
What do you think of when you hear the words success and significance? When I think about these words, two words come to mind. Want and Being.
Success = wanting and Significance = being.
We live in a society were a person is measured by their success. In business, success is measured in terms of how much profit is brought in. A person's success is measured by what they have or what type of home they live in and the car they drive. I am amazed at the number of people that I hear say " if I only had...." I must be honest here.......I have caught myself saying that same phrase. We are bombarded by advertisements that make you think you are "less than," if you do not have their product.
The church world is a little different than the business world. Ministers success is determined by the size of the church you pastor or the length of revivals you conduct if you are an Evangelist......I guess size does matter.
The people that have made an impact in my life did not have the large churches. They did not have the largest business. They were just simple people that knew the right words to say at the right time. They were people that were not possessed with being placed in the "spotlight," but had more of a passion to be significant.
When I look at the life of Jesus, I see a person that was not driven to be successful but significant. After all, if success was what He was after, then He could have had it all when He was tempted by satan. Jesus saw more that what was being offered. He saw beyond what could have been acquired. He saw the significance of what He had to offer. His decision not to be driven by success but to be significant, is still being felt today.
When I die, I want my life to reflect more of my significance with others than any success that I may have. I want to make a difference in people's lives. I want to challenge people in the way they perceive life events. I want to have an impact on changing a person's eternal destination.
After all..............that is what Jesus did.
Peace Out..............
