THINK ABOUT IT. These were the CoG Teachings that were held to for 100 years. It was these teachings that I grew up with while attending the CoG. The Practical Teachings as listed below were all replaced with a new summary version at the conclusion of the 61st General Assembly that was held in 1986. This change has become the issue that many deal with even today. Many people who were a part of the CoG during the pre-1986 Era do not accept the change of 1986. Thus, we have the issues that are dealt with on this Facebook thread.

  1. What does it mean “FIRST LOVE?” Revelation 2:1-7 King James Version (KJV)

    2 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy FIRST LOVE..

5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

  2. It’s the love you had when you first got saved.

  3. When we loose our first Love, that is the beginning of loosing out with GOD.

  4. I think we overlook a key point of Heb 12:1.
Some things are weights, some are sin.
Sin can be and often are cross cultural and almost universal.
Weights can be generational, cultural, and are often personal.

I will leave the rest of the message so you can work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (before the Lord).

  5. I do not appreciate people who are derogatory, express criticism or make fun of the pre-1986 CoG people, including we who hold to these teachings today. Everyone gets to believe what they want. I will say though, I have pics of thousands of people gathering at their meetings and numerous recordings of their services. This is something that today’s church cannot even come close to comparison. And if things are so wonderful today because people feel they are no longer under what they call Legalism from now have freedom, then explain why a great number of churches often have barely anyone in attendance? Churches that once had 400-500 people are fortunate if they have 70 in Sunday morning attendance. I know of churches that have 4-5 in church. A brother informed me a few days ago that in one of our fine southern states, Pentecostal churches no longer have Sunday evening services. They offered one service a week, usually on Sunday morning. And then, no one hardly ever has revival services any more. The evangelist is out of business. Anyone with any smarts will notice there are very little altar services and very little Holy Spirit in many of our churches today.

  6. I can name several churches who are not having Sunday evening services. Some of them had a Super bowl Party on a Sunday night at the church.

  7. Going back to the “FIRST LOVE” can we break it down what was happening with our “FIRST LOVE” for Jesus Christ? What does it mean to do your “FIRST WORKS” over?

  8. People then had a tremendous desire to win lost souls.

  9. The compromise actually started at the 57 assembly in 1958 the year i was born so we pulled out and kept the mother teachings ….. But we’ve had to add to them because of the perversion of this generation…. With that said…. It’s really not our teachings but our living (individually) that will only make a difference….AMEN … A LOT OF PEOPLE LIVE DIFFERENT ON VACATION THAN THEY DO AT HOME? WHY? It’s in their heart …. We need revival

  10. If you are genuine, you will be the same when on vacation as you are at any other time in your life.

  11. David Price says:

I was not raised in the CoG but when i joined those were ther teachings i agreed to live by. When i pastored in the CoG those are the ones i preached by and recieved members by.

  12. Isn’t it something how they can take a vote and change everything.

  13. In the Study Commission’s Report which helped to bring about this change, a strange scenario is the fact the scriptures were never one time consulted. The Church’s theologians were never consulted regarding the church’s theology. Everything else was consulted, I guess you could say, except GOD. Such a vast difference from the earlier preachers. You will notice that there were scripture verses with each teaching. These earlier men searched the scriptures for answers.

  14. When you realize that you are in error, do you change it or just continue in your error because it has been that way since grandma’s grandmama?

  15. David Price says:

One may argue different things that those in the past believed. One thing is certain the lives they lived and the kind of christian they produced is greatly different fron today. The preaching kept people on their knees and the teachings produced a seperated people. We may indeed find that some things were not wrong but i highly doubt we will wished we would have indulged in it.

  16. Link Hudson says:

The justification for banning lodges is a rather lame inaccurate application of scripture if the lodge isn’t occultic in nature. There are different kinds.
