PACKING HEAT! Sunday afternoon a friend and well placed layman in the CoG came by to visit and he filled me in on some of the behind the scenes things going on in the church. One that surprised me most was that two prominent and high profile pastors carry guns. One has a full time body guard who I was told packs three weapons and the other carries a small pistol that he keeps well disguised.
What a change for in the fifties and sixties I often preached in skid row missions in downtown Chicago and since then have taken food and other help to people in hotel ghetto’s, to both black and white, filled at times with addicts and gangs; I was fearful and prayed for safety but never carried a weapon.
I pass no judgement on these men but only comment on changing times.

I have known of COG pastors that kept pistols at their church office but unfortunately used it on themselves when overly depressed.

It’s a different world and different times.

Unfortunately with shootings in churches today I think it’s a good idea if at least one person is carrying. Could save a lot of lives. Even 10 or 20 years ago who would’ve thought.

I know of a lot of old preachers who carried guns, everywhere. It doesn’t mean that someone doesn’t have faith.

Lots of people got killed in church business meetings!

Wise as serpents harmless as doves
Luke 11:21
When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
Common sense and faith. -
I have two layman in my church with law enforcement backgrounds bring their guns to church every Sunday. I feel as Pastor I must do everything that I can to protect the people. In this day and age we live in anything can happen.

Over the last year or two between 70 & 80 Americans are dying per day from gunshot wounds, suicidal, accidental and homicidal. What if anything can the church do about this?

Great compassion. That’s great.

Do you remember the COG minister who was killed (murdered) several years ago. It was somewhere in the midwest. I don’t remember his name or the exact location but maybe things would have been different if he was ‘packing heat’. He is not the only christian who has met this type of fate.

Bobbi Klein, probably more than that if the truth be known.
