Church’s Vote 2012 Event to Highlight Biblical Citizenship
A citizenship ministry of the Rock Church in San Diego, Calif., is hosting a voter awareness event Saturday with Christian leaders speaking about how believers can apply biblical principles when engaging politically and culturally.
“Let’s Rock America – Vote 2012 is an event to raise awareness and encourage individuals to vote. We pray that this event will serve to restore patriotism and hope to the community,” say organizers.
The church’s Salt and Light ministry states that its mission is to equip Christians to think critically and most importantly develop and apply a biblical worldview to the governmental sphere, voting, and all social and cultural issues of the day.
Among the speakers planned for the event is Wayne Grudem, who is a Theology and Biblical Studies research professor at Phoenix Seminary in Phoenix, Ariz. He is also the past president of the Evangelical Theological Society, a co-founder and past president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, and a member of the Translation Oversight Committee for the English Standard Version of the Bible.
Grudem is scheduled to discuss topics from his new book Politics According to the Bible, including what the bible says about government’s role, picking candidates and other “hard questions concerning politics.”
Also on the speakers’ list is Randy Thomasson, a veteran pro-family leader and President of SaveCalifornia.com, who will speak about the mission to “stand strong for moral virtues for the common good.”
“On the front lines of the culture war since 1994, Randy thrives on educating, equipping, and inspiring concerned citizens to embrace and promote Godly moral virtues in their homes and communities,” event organizers state. “Known for his straight-forward and stimulating commentary on a variety of social issues in the media, Randy represents the voices of parents, grandparents and concerned individuals who want their values and dearly-held beliefs respected and protected.”
Craig Huey, who is the coordinator and speaker for the Election Forum and JudgeVoterGuide.com, will be reviewing the ballot including the presidential candidates, and the local propositions, judges, and candidates.
Huey has led Election forums in churches throughout Southern California since 1998. He has also given his election recommendations on local Christian and conservative radio shows.
Rock Church Pastor Miles McPherson, who is the author of several books including Do Something! Make Your Life Count, is highly respected for his leadership in the area of community service. Members of his congregation have given the city of San Diego thousands of volunteer work hours in recent years, including help in improving the city’s emergency call center.
