If Only

Only the fog of my warm breath meeting the cold air
covers my tear-stained cheeks.
"Is this goodbye?" I ask,
As we stand a moment longer underneath the black moonlit sky.
"It has to be," she whispers
As she looks away, trying to hide her pain filled eyes;
"I wish it didn't have to be this way."
She falls into my arms and our tears turn to sobs.
If only time could stand still forever.
