In Memory of Reverend James Edward (Jake) Anderson (September 1, 1927 – December 30, 2016)
Reverend James Edward (Jake) Anderson, 89, of Brunswick, died Friday, December 30, 2016 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems surrounded by family and friends. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Chapel followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Bishop T. Dwight Spivey and Reverend Billy Swain officiating and burial will follow at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
Reverend Anderson’s grandsons, James Anderson Cox, James Dwight Spivey, Shawn David Spivey, Joshua Brennan Mead, and great-grandsons Jeremy Ryan Cox, Codie Emanuel Cox and Micah Joseph Cox are serving as pallbearers.
Reverend Anderson is a native of Waycross, Georgia, the son of the late Joseph Edward Anderson and the late Iva Lee Smith. He left home at 14 years of age and worked in the shipyards until his employer discovered he wasn’t 16 and had to let him go. Reverend Anderson was called into the ministry at a young age (17) and began running revivals in South Georgia. He pastored churches in South Georgia, North Georgia, and Michigan. Reverend Anderson was also a master carpenter and built many homes and other structures over the years.
In addition to Reverend Anderson’s parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Matthew Anderson, his daughter, Valerie Mead, grandson, Brian Joseph Cox, and his first wife, Margie Shelton Anderson.
Survivors include Reverend Anderson’s wife, Betty Dominey Anderson, of Brunswick; one brother, Charles (Nancy) Anderson, of Carrollton; four daughters, Faye (Harry) Cox, of Brunswick, Gail (T. Dwight) Spivey, of Cleveland, TN, Peggy (Perry) James, of Milledgeville, and Edye (Jim) Kerns, of Hazlehurst, son-in-law, Mike Mead, of Brunswick; ten grandchildren, James Anderson (Debbie) Cox, Erin (Travis) Shaw, James Dwight (Ondria) Spivey, Heather (Barry) Harrell, Shawn (Leona) Spivey, Jennifer (Brad) Goodman, Stephanie (Greer) Smith, Ashley Kerns Burkett, Joshua (Rebecca) Mead, and Tori Anna Mead; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
