Indispensable Moments

“The graveyards are full of indispensable men.”

―Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970)

Charles de Gaulle, probably the most significant and influential man for the nation of France during the 20th century understood something: Indispensability has a shelf life.

No one lives forever and there will be someone to take your place long before you breathe you last breath.

But does that mean you should throw up your hands and quit? Are you going to join what Henry David Thoreau described as the mass of men who lead lives of quiet desperation?

The answer must be “No!” A thousand times no!

Peter, speaking of one of his nation’s ancient and most important kings described him this way: “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, and was buried with his fathers…” (Acts 13:36)

The most indispensable among us will not live forever. The truth is, this life was never meant to be forever, but you and I have now. This is our time, this is our generation.

There are worse things than being forgotten in a graveyard, and that is to be forgotten while still among the living.

The ONE THING for today: “Indispensable” has a shelf-life, but that does not mean that God does not have an indispensable purpose for your life. Today will be filled with opportunities for you to make an indispensable difference. Get with it my friend, today is what matters.
