July 11: 8 Tammuz

It was on this day in 1834 that Queen Maria Christina of Spain, once and for all, abolished the Spanish Inquisition. The Inquisition is a dark stain on European history. Thousands of Jews and others, as well, were forced to convert to Catholicism or be burned at the stake. Apparently, powerful people thought they had been given the right, by God, to force people to convert. These same people felt that those who refused should be eliminated and with God’s blessing. Of course, the Messiah never condoned killing anyone or forcing any person to convert to the faith. The only dying the Messiah condoned was that His followers die to ourselves.

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24)

There are religions, whether it be Islam, secularism or atheism that are demanding of you and I to convert or die. They want us to give into tolerance and coexistence or they attack us, either through the courts or through jihad. They are trying to force us into compliance with their way of thinking, believing it is their right to do this. As followers of the Messiah, we are called to resist these tactics. We are not called to coexist as society defines it but are called to be a set apart people. We must truly follow the Messiah’s example and mean it when we pray, “Father, not my will, but You will be done.”

As we’re being faced with demands to comply with the world’s way of thinking, let our prayer be to glorify and sanctify the name of the Father in the earth. Let us continue to stand upright and walk straight and may our way of thinking be in sync with the Creator’s way of thinking. May our minds be renewed and not be conformed to the ways of this world.
