“You are the light of the world…”

―Jesus, talking to his disciples (Matthew 5:14-16)

When describing Christian as the “light of the world” I think it is significant that Jesus used a stationary examples.

A city on a hill

A lamp sitting on a lampstand

Some Christian’s understanding of “letting your light shine” is akin to creating deer-in-headlight moments where we run people over with our “witness.”

Sorta of like the Statue of Liberty coming to life and chasing people around with her torch.

That’s no way to point people to Jesus or to create a desire and taste for Jesus (using salt as another Jesus-example).

Make this a no-drama day.

Keep your nose out of other people’s business.

Don’t worry about making a statement, defending a belief, or promoting a position.

Just do life.

Treat people with kindness.

Be respectful.

Don’t whine, complain, and find fault.

Do your work well.

Treat yourself (and others) well.

Enjoy the blessings God’s given you.

Bear up bravely through the challenges, problems, aches and pains.

To cut to the chase…

Just do life……with Jesus (See: The Practice of the Presence of God, by Brother Lawrence)

And He will take it from there.

The ONE THING for today: Be obvious about your faith but don’t be obnoxious. Just live there and shine.
