“Their eyes met and they stared together at each other, alone in space.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald

One of the attributes of God is that he is present everywhere at all times. It is called by the bible scholars: omnipresence.

It is enough for us ordinary folk to just know that wherever we go, God is there.

But here’s the rub, it is one thing for God be present and it is an entirely different thing for you and me to enter into his presence.

It’s like standing in a long line with a group of strangers. Picture the security line at an airport. There you are – present with a long and winding line of strangers. You are all present together in the same room but it is uncomfortable.

But the moment you make eye contact with someone things change between you and that person. You’ve now entered, ever so slightly, into each other’s presence. Maybe a nod follows, a small smile, perhaps even a remark or two commiserating about the slow wait or the weather or some other general topic.

Now, at least on a small level, you’ve become friends. You’re for each other. You wish each other well.

All because of a simple eye contact.

That’s how it is with God.

Yes, he’s always present, but when you make eye contact with him you actually enter into his presence and that is what makes all the difference.

It is called worship.

It is saying to God, let’s do this together.

And the beauty of this is that suddenly you have a Friend, an ally, a helper, a counselor–one who walks along beside to help you.

Talk about a game-changer!

The ONE THING for today: Don’t make God a stranger; make eye contact; live each day as unto the Lord and soon you will find that you’re living each day with Lord.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
