Often business articles give insight into the church world. Today the Woodman Life Magazine came and as I read it many comparisons with the church came to mind. Oddly W L will be meeting in Nashville in July and their board will be discussing; ” our business will face new issues that are complex and challenging.” When the CoG meets in Nashville in July their leaders will also be discussing issues that are complex and challenging. Here are some other similarities that might help us wrap our minds around the church at large. 1. W L is non profit. 2. ” We exist to benefit our members through every stage of life.” 3. We are committed to family, community and country. 4. They have 10.7 billion in assets. I wonder if we could take No.2 and see if that applies to the CoG? There are seven stages of life and churches large or small can and do give assistance through each one of those stages. The question is; do our members understand these benefits and do they put value on them? As I talk to laymen they often seem not to understand the value of our service. Just to baptise to marry and to bury gives life continuity, to help children and young people sidestep the pitfalls that so many fall into is very valuable indeed. To develop a culture that holds marriages together, helps middle agers prepare for retirement and helps the old prepare for the end stages takes away so much of the pain and agony that life can give. Again is the ministry team getting the credit they deserve? Are we doing something every week to help explain the benefits.
