Good evening, and welcome to #ourCOG Daily Brief for December 10, 2025.
In today’s top stories, a significant shift in U.S. politics sees Congress considering a ban on members trading individual stocks, moving beyond mere disclosure to prevent potential insider trading. President Trump’s expanded use of pardon power in his second term is drawing criticism, with some suggesting certain clemency grants could pose a threat to democracy. On a more positive note, the U.S. is on track for a 20-year low in mass killings, including deadly shootings, with prevention programs and community health initiatives potentially playing a role. Questions are being raised within the military about when troops should follow orders versus push back, especially after recent drug boat attacks put leaders under scrutiny. Additionally, a nearly century-old Supreme Court precedent limiting a president’s ability to fire heads of independent federal agencies could soon be overturned, a move President Trump openly desires. Internationally, in Ukraine, the city of Sloviansk maintains morale even as Russia’s Vladimir Putin vows to take the entire Donetsk region. Europe is pressuring Germany to ramp up its defense capabilities amidst Russian threats, though it remains to be seen if Germans are ready to take up arms. And in the Middle East, Prime Minister Netanyahu has yet to rein in surging West Bank settler violence, despite a rise in the term “Jewish terrorism” and a plurality of Israelis believing attackers are handled too leniently, due to the settlers’ strong government allies.

For the latest in prophecy news, there’s a significant development in Denmark, where for the first time, the United States is being identified as part of the threat picture against the nation, according to Berlingske newspaper ahead of Denmark’s military intelligence report. In other global news, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in London, aiming to build consensus between the U.S., Ukraine, and its European allies. Domestically, the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear a case that could fundamentally reshape how political parties fund their campaigns, potentially allowing for unlimited spending. Finally, concerns are being raised about what some are calling “the fall of Britain,” attributed by critics to a “governing elite” perceived to be undermining the country.
And finally, looking back at Jewish history on this day, December 10th, we remember several notable events. In 925, Sancho I, a ruler known for having the Jewish physician Hasdai ibn Shaprut, passed away. Fast forward to 1475, and we mark the passing of Italian artist Paolo Uccello, who, like many of his contemporaries, produced anti-Semitic art, including his “Miracle of the Host.” Then in 1508, the League of Cambrai was formed, an alliance against Venice involving Pope Julius II, Louis XII of France, Maximilian I, and Ferdinand II of Aragon. This alliance presented a mixed bag for Jewish communities; while Ferdinand had expelled Jews from his kingdom, Pope Julius himself employed a Jewish physician.
