The high-profile government case against former FBI director James Comey appears to be in peril due to a series of missteps, and the public falling-out between Marjorie Taylor Greene and President Trump is creating a buzz in her Georgia district, highlighting divisions within the MAGA movement. Internationally, U.S. remarks about Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro are stirring complicated memories of the 1973 U.S.-backed coup in Chile. In Sudan, women fleeing El Fasher face ongoing battles to keep their families safe amid hunger and separation. On the international front, UN delegates are working to develop a framework convention on international tax cooperation, discussing proposals for a draft structure and a protocol on cross-border services. And finally, a commentary piece described voters in New York and California as personifying the definition of ‘insanity’ for repeating the same voting patterns and expecting different results.

And finally, in Jewish history, looking back to November 23rd: In 912, Otto the Great, founder of the Holy Roman Empire, was born. During his reign, Rabbis in the Rhineland reached out to those in Palestine, seeking clarification on reports of the Messiah’s appearance. Fast forward to 1160, and we mark the birth of Lotario dei Conti di Segni, who would become Pope Innocent III. He was one of the most powerful medieval popes and convened the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215. This council renewed old prohibitions against Jews holding public offices and controversially introduced the law requiring Jews to wear a distinctive sign on their garments.
