“…there aren’t always great things to do, and sometimes we maximize our contribution by being discerning and relatively inactive. Patient opportunism…is often your best strategy.” —Howard Marks
Patient opportunism.
I like that expression.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is say, “I missed that one.”
Sitting one out doesn’t mean you missed out on life, it just means you missed that one.
Yes, I know, the opportunity of a lifetime doesn’t last a lifetime, and sometimes you blow it—blow it big time. But the patient optimist knows that there will be another opportunity and, in the meantime, carrying around a bag of regret-rocks will only slow you down.
So maybe your life didn’t turn out the way you thought it would, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a life. Live and learn…there’ll be other opportunities and next time you’ll be better prepared. It’s called patient optimism.
The ONE THING for today: The patient optimists understands that God is a God of abundance. Missing the opportunity of a lifetime doesn’t negate a lifetime of opportunities. Carpe Diem!
