Somebody Needs to Speak Up!

“Then God said…” (Genesis 1:3)

The great Creator and God of us all was Creator long before Genesis 1. The potential to create is an essential part of being a Creator.  But…and here’s the point…nothing happened until God said something.

Ultimately, if anything is going to happen, you have to speak up.

Thinking it, imagining it, hoping for it, wishing for it, believing for it is all good in its place, but eventually you have to speak it.

Letting your little light shine is good as far as it goes.  “Being salty” and letting your deeds speak for themselves is helpful. But eventually you have to take a stand and say, “Hey! Wait a minute!”

There are pivotal moments when the only thing to do is to say something. To declare…

“I shall…”

“I commit…”

“I will not…”

“This I believe and I will act accordingly”

In this age of Tic Tok trauma dumps, Instagram idiot talk, and Facebook emotional regurgitation, it’s easy to overdo speaking up.

After a while, the endless protesting, screaming, and shouting can be numbing and make us ask, “Why bother?”

But if something really needs to happen,

If change truly is required,

If something honestly matters,

If a warning must be given,

If good is going to be done,

If something lasting is to be built,

If what is worthy is going to be preserved,

If lives are going to be saved,

Then eventually, someone, somewhere will have to speak up.

There’s no merit in being a part of the silent majority.  Surely there’s something that matters enough to you that it requires you speaking up.

Surely there’s a lost soul you love enough to witness to.

Surely…

If so…

Pray for wisdom, ask for courage, gather your thoughts, and then, succinctly, kindly, but firmly and truthfully, do it…speak up.

The ONE THING for today: Nothing happens until someone is willing to speak up.  Be that someone today.
