“God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19)
I have recently spoken with several brothers in Christ and a few sisters as well who have questioned how the Israeli’s have conducted this most recent war that was begun on 7 October 2023 – Once again, started by their hate-filled enemies.
Part of the problem is that, in the Vietnam War, most of the mainstream media report “details” of war intentionally deceive(or are deceived) and willfully omit facts; then, too many people accept it as truth because they have little or no discernment.
Coupled with the growing hatred of the Jews, as the Word of God prophesies, a picture emerges that bears little resemblance to “truth” and more in common with omitting it. No one should just blindly accept this “journalism,” least of all Bible-believing Christians.
A few salient points seem to be ignored or overwhelmed by the antisemitic and vociferous “media” coverage that has been so constant since 7 October 2023.
As Christians, we should give sober consideration to this seeming contradiction between God’s promise to Abraham (then Abram) that He would make his offspring into a great nation, and the way the State of Israel exists currently. How one understands the term “great nation” is key to a proper perspective.
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2).
God certainly kept His Word, as He always has, and then further made this promise:
“I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you” (Genesis 12:3a).
Then the Lord made this prophetic promise not only to Abraham but also to all who would believe Him.
“…and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3b).
Verse 12:3a is where the confusion lies. Most unbelievers and far too many Christians focus on this recent war against Hamas, disassociate modern-day Israel with Old Testament Israel, and erroneously conclude that the Jews who received the promise aren’t the Jews of the modern State of Israel.
This would imply that God is not willing to keep His promises, but He is. He has. And He will.
They point to the State of Israel doing things that contradict their somewhat unrealistic view of how they think Israel should act after being viciously assaulted once again.
Based on that, I would like to make a couple of observations on what God said and what He did not say:
- He did not say that He would make Abraham into a flawless and perfect nation.
- He did say, “all the nations of the earth would be blessed,” meaning the Jews and the Gentiles as well. Paul clarifies the term “nations” in (Galatians 3:8) as meaning ethnic groups, so all peoples are included in His promise.
God’s promise of a blessing to those who bless Israel is based on the same conditions as Abraham’s:
“For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness’” (Romans 4:3). Emphasis added.
This promise of (Romans 4:3) is conditional in eternal terms: It requires that the individual “believes” God, and that also includes all His requirements for Salvation. (Please read the “Special message” at the end of this article.)
I believe the promise of a curse applies to those who hate the Jews without justification, or more simply, just because they are Jews. A blind, unjustifiable hatred that Jesus foretold. (John 15:19-20/John 15:25).
It is not as if God permanently rejected His people, because He never has and never will, as the verses from (Jeremiah 31:35-37) below will make clear.
In Truth, Israel acts no differently than any other nation would that is constantly and violently attacked and threatened with extermination by all the countries that surround it, aided and abetted by the completely satanic UN.
In truth, Israel’s conduct can’t be compared with that of any other nation because no other nation has ever been assaulted, hated, and condemned as they have.
Prosperity and material wealth in this world, although sometimes granted by God’s Grace, are not specifically what this blessing promises. This sin-infested world is passing away, as God made abundantly clear:
“And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17). Emphasis added.
The nation of Israel.
God prophesied that He would resurrect His people as a nation in at least two locations in His Word:
Ezekiel (37:5-13): In these verses, God prophecies that the nation of Israel would be resurrected and become an “exceeding great army,” but they would be brought back in unbelief. This is their present-day condition.
Isaiah (66:8): God prophesied that, in a single day, the State of Israel would be reborn. On May 14, 1948, it happened just as God promised.
The modern State of Israel is governed by largely secular individuals, and is still in unbelief to this day. It should come as no surprise that they exhibit all the same characteristics that all the other secular nations of the earth also display.
While many Jews verbally acknowledge God the Father and selectively quote Old Testament Scriptures, they deny certain clear teachings in them and refuse to accept their Messiah, Yeshua Hamashiach. Because of this, they are themselves under God’s judgment – but they are not cast aside or replaced by the Church.
Lest America should succumb to pride, I believe God also has this nation under the same judgments that He has always directed against those who are not willing to repent. America as a nation, and Americans as individuals, should be very introspective before blindly condemning Jews or the State of Israel. America has much that needs repenting of, and failure to do so always brings His judgment.
Those Jews who have received their Messiah, Jesus Christ, are part of the family God has promised to bless, along with all Gentiles who believe in Him – and who believe Him. They will be spared from the punishment of God when He brings His “end of days” prophecies to completion. Jesus’ statement that NO ONE comes to the Father except through Him is not negotiable and cannot be ignored.
For those who condemn Israel and frequently say that they don’t believe the Jews who comprise the modern State of Israel are still God’s chosen, I would offer these cautionary points.
The Jews have been repeatedly assaulted in attempts to destroy, not just the State of Israel but the Jewish people themselves. In every case, the attitude of their attackers was to utterly destroy every last Jewish man, woman and child – simply because they are Jews. They make no effort to mask their hatred (Psalm 83:2-4).
- 1948, The War for Independence.
- Again in 1956, initiated by Israel due to Egypt’s unlawful conduct.
- Again in 1967, The Six-Day War.
- Again, War of Attrition, 1967-1970.
- Again in 1973, The Yom Kippur War.
- Again, First Intifada (1987-1993), Second Intifada (2000-2005).
- Again in 2006, initiated by Hezbollah.
- Again, October 7, 2023, War (Ongoing).
- Numerous other terrorist attacks over the years.
In every case, the intervention of God on behalf of His people when they have been attacked, even with “overwhelming force,” could not be more obvious, except by those who choose not to see.
“Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4).
If the Jews living in the present-day State of Israel were not the Jews of the covenant God made with Abraham, they would certainly have been destroyed or overwhelmed by the sheer number of their enemies over the intervening years, but that has not happened. They have survived because God said they would (Isaiah 54:17).
Now to the crux of this article.
It is unwise to try to separate the Jews of the Promise from the Jews of modern-day Israel and equally unwise to arbitrarily pass judgment on them.
“Do not judge, or you will be judged. For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Matthew 7:1-2). Emphasis added.
I do not believe that Jesus’ warning above applies only to individuals, but to nations also.
All the conditions of God’s covenant were guaranteed by God alone, so no human sin or failure could nullify it. He knew all the excuses that mankind would employ.
The Book of Jeremiah contains a promise to the Nation of Israel. Encapsulated in that promise is a warning to the rest of the world.
“Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day, who sets in order the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the LORD of Hosts is His name: ‘Only if this fixed order departed from My presence, declares the LORD, would Israel’s descendants ever cease to be a nation before Me.’ This is what the LORD says: ‘Only if the heavens above could be measured and the foundations of the earth below searched out would I reject all of Israel’s descendants because of all they have done’”(Jeremiah 31:35-37). Emphasis added.
The promise is contained in the entirety of the verses above. The warning is implied in that those who claim that the Jews are no longer the people of God are denying His Word and Sovereignty. In reality, that equivocates with calling God a liar.
For those who have received Christ and are part of the family of God, I offer this reminder:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
What does “all the families of the earth will be blessed through you” mean? It can only mean that Salvation comes by the Jewish Messiah – Jesus Christ, who said:
“I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).
For those who may read this and have, up to now, been living apart from God, there is still time to receive the Grace that Jesus Christ offers to all who will “open their door” to Him.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).
If you choose to act, you must do so in your living years. I pray you will.
The special message I promised you:
For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no real hope or peace in your life.
You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.
It requires that you come before God on His terms and that you do so in your living years.
And what are His terms according to His Word?
- Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
- Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
- That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
- To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
- Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross and rose from the grave three days later, conquering death, just as He promised.
- To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.
God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.
- No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
- No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
- Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.
If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.
“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).
There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.
The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
