The Potter’s House
Jeremiah 18: 1-6
Verse 4 “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”
I once visited a potter’s house with some friends. To us, the vessel on the potter’s wheel seemed to be taking shape, then suddenly she smashed the clay on the wheel and without hesitation started again. Again, with the same piece of clay, she worked raising the sides up higher and higher until it was exactly as she wanted it. She explained that as she kept applying pressure to the clay, she could feel the imperfections and she knew it would not survive the fire so she started again.
At the start of a New Year, many decide on New Year resolutions to change the things they don’t like or in other words, “the imperfections”. Instead I choose to think of the New Year as an oil painter might think of a brand new canvas. Nothing has been written on it yet. It isn’t “marred”. In this New Year anything is possible when we put our faith and lives in the ‘Potter’s hands’.
This year I choose to place the Potter’s Wheel on my “canvas” of life and to allow Him to help me with my imperfections.
God bless you in this fresh New Year.
