Genesis 3:9 (NKJV) “Where are you?”

Genesis 4:9 (NKJV) “Where is Abel your brother?”

It is a sad, sad irony to me that following on the hills of God’s question to Adam—“Where are you?” is God’s question to Cain—“Where is your brother?”

I believe there is a direct correlation.

When we lose our way, it creates a ripple effect that washes up on the shores of generations to come.

When we lose our way, we take those coming behind us in that direction too.

Our lives matters.

Decisions we make today will be the catalyst for decisions that will be made this time next year.

Spiritually, Adam murdered the entire human race when he lost his way in the Garden and ate of the forbidden fruit (Romans 5:17a). Later Cain followed the thorny path of his lost father and acted out what was symbolized in the garden and murdered his own brother. And thus we go, generation by generation following that same thorny path that our first father started us on.

The news headlines of today are the same headlines that our parents read before us…and their parents, and their parent before them all the way back to the garden. Just different names and different places…but the sad story goes on.

But, there is always another way…

The past is forever, but there is also a future and decisions made today are like adjustments on a journey which can get us, and those following, to an entirely different destination.

Unfortunately you can’t do this by yourself (that’s why the headlines never change), but there is Someone who can help you – He is the Way, the Truth, the Life.

The ONE THING for today: Lost you way today? Make a bee-line to Jesus Christ—He not only knows the way, He is the way. And He is committed to helping you find your way.
